I was getting a lot of rattling from the horn on my Uly, so I tried a couple of fixes and nothing has worked perfectly yet. Attempt 1 - stuck a felt pad on the front of the horn. Worked fairly well but lowered the sound of the horn to an anemic level. Attempt 2 - used some 3M double sided adhesive between the mount and the bracket it is mounted on. This made the rattle worse if anything. Attempt 3 - Reverse the Horn and bracket and mounted at 90 degrees to the original position (from 6 o'clock to 9 o'clock). Rattle vibration is gone, but there is a new less annoying vibration at low RPM. Does anyone know what Buell recommends to eliminate this problem? Thanks. | ||

I completely removed the black mounting plate from the horn. Then used the bolt coming out of the horn body and reverse mounted the horn directly onto the original mounting point. Hmmmm.... hope you can figure out what I just wrote cuz I can't. | ||

I'm still on attempt #1 similar to yours only I used a piece of tool box drawer liner. It too made the horn very wimpy. At this point I feel the only worthwhile alternative is to install a horn from this place.  http://www.groverairhorns.com/motorcycle/mcl.html Make sure to check out the horn sounds page. There is a Road King forum I frequent. A guy put a set of these on his bike, they supposedly are very good at scaring the crap out of fellow forum members during their annual "fest". | ||

I put a plastic zip tie around the base and it seemed to work. | ||

Brotherbuell, I tried your fix but it muffled the horn. At least it did on my bike. The horn is meant to be attached at the end of the thin blades so that it can vibrate at a high frequency but when you attach it without the two thin blades like your picture shows, you effectively quell the high freq so that you end up with a much reduced decibel level. Here's a picture of how I ended up doing it without loosing any sound. I attached the frame mounting end of the thin blades to the left end mounting screw of the fairing brace. Then I twisted it do that the horn faces forward. Maybe not what some would want to do but it works for me. It is very loud. I found that it still vibrated against the top so I put a piece of sticky carpet padding on the fairing and that took care of that without any degrading in volume whatsoever.  | ||

E, You are correct. The frequency and amplitude of my horn is somewhat lower with my setup. I think it is still loud enough to be effective. Honestly, I hardly ever use it. Your setup offers a great alternative, especially for those who spend a lot of time in traffic. | ||

My original fix that I told about a few months ago quit working altogether and I thought maybe a wire had broken but I ended up finding that the CeeBailey was hard up against it. No sound at all until the windshield was removed. Anyways, I decided that I wanted the loudest horn noise possible in case I needed to use it. The muffled version doesn't seem 1/2 as loud and I'd hate to kill myself because of it. | ||

Thanks for the recommendations all. Does anyone know if Buell has a official fix? I think I'm going up the the Troy plant in June for Buell days, so at the very least I will ask someone up there. | ||

I got the Freeway Blaster (low tone) and mounted it like Brotherbuell. Great improvement and no rattle. fubar | ||

I cut a small piece of clear (tygon) tubing that I got at Home Depot and placed it under the black brace (kept horn and brace in original position). Then I bent the brace a tad so the angle of the horn resulted in no contact with wind screen. The bottom of the horn used to hit the screen. Seems to work well. Frank | ||

I went with a Fiamm high tone freeway blaster mounted as pictured  Nice (louder)improvement over stock Cheers -Jack | ||

Hopefully this makes sense: You know when you buy a bicycle helmet or skate helmet and they usually come with some extra soft foam pieces so that you can make the helmet fit more comfortably? They usually come on a sheet of four or so and are around 1" x 1/2" or something along those lines. Well, I took one of those soft foam pieces, which already has adhesive on the back, and stuck it on the inside of the windscreen directly where the horn had been contacting it. It works great, stopping the rattle completely, and does not muffle the horn blast that I can tell. My "fix" is still holding up (but for how long who knows)... | ||
