My opinions after 1000 miles:

Tall, Damn Tall !!!! I have a low seat on order.

Some heat on R leg - I see a ceramic coated header this winter..

I was disappointed in the seat.... Not that bad, but after the reviews I was expecting much better. Of course the seating position is different than what I am used too. I would compare to my Mustang on my cruiser.

It is quick, don't know that I need more. : )

1st gear could be a little lower.

Jury is still out on the sound - like quiet but the race pipe sound good too..

Did I say it is Tall, damn Tall?? I am a hair shy of 6' and am tipy-toe on stops.

Bags are cavernous, don't know that I will ever use all that - may take top case off..

Stock sheild is fine - the tall sheild is better.

Rear brake is almost useless - unless I glazed it riding twisties with the Brag guys on XB12R's.. Told the dealer to check it while servicing.

Did I say Tall, Damn tall ???

Fan is Loud!! and runs all the time - even in mid 40F's on the highway - too bad there is no way to duct it up into the riding suit! : )

No Wobble, weave or decel weave (knock on wood) Had the bike up to 105 with stock and tall shield.

did I say it is tall?

Some heat on the R. Leg but manageable so far.

Keep reaching for the kick stand behind the foot peg - havn't found it there yet: )

I love this bike!!

congrats. everyday i fall more in love with this bike. i sat on a bunch of the big 4s liter bikes today while waiting for a buddy to purchase a kawi dlr650 (he wanted a uly, but wouldnt drop 12k on his 1st bike) and forgot how uncomfortable the rest of the world is.

youll have even more fun the next 3k miles. ;0

my only problem has been poor mileage.

chris

edit. wait a minute, you have already put 1,000,000 miles on already? wtf, over?

Mike,

Mine just turned 2000 miles. I echo your comments except for the fan. Mine rarely comes on while riding even in traffic on a high 80 degree day. I attribute that to the drummer exhaust and Direct link tune (and more miles on engine). I thought that heat off the frame and right side would be worse than it is, see above.

A low seat and Odie heat shields are two possible purchases for me in the future.

Frank

PS
I will be getting my DL map fine tuned by Gainesville HD Buell later this month. I am sure they will eliminate the few tune issues I have.

My friend's fan comes on less often now after it has more miles under it.
Wait for 10K.

They seem to generate less heat after broken in.

I've just hit 3,000 miles and the fan comes on less, motoring under 3,000rpm (heck, under 2,500)works, gas mileage is finally in the mid forties. I think these motors take a while to fully break in. Oh, I've used a total of 4 oz. of oil (not counting the 10,000 mi. service) since I bought the thing.

In the last 1,000 miles I'm finally getting my last issues with the bike sorted., and all I have to do is ride it more. WHOOOHOOO!

I have about 1K on mine too and share some of your issues
tall damn tall. but so am I and I love it.

Right leg afire, I was thinking about that ceramic coating on the headers too. I am a little concerned about where all that extra heat is going to go, can the stock exhaust take it without cooking? will it drop it onto the rear tire and overheat it?

headlight is pitiful, my vespa has twice the headlight, figure that one out.

I'm getting about 35-37 mpg and I am not hard on the gas?

do any of you more experienced buellers have any ideas, I shore would appreciate your help. by the by I am in the bay area of Calif. thanks

Did you break it in by the book or motoman?

I did a couple tanks of back roads - lots of acceleration and slowing... got @37 then - common wisdom says it improves as it breaks in.

I have the ceramic header on the Winter list.. will suffer thru this summer. The extra heat shoudn't hurt the muffler.

I just got mine back from 1K maint today : ) drug it home as we are having storms roll thru. Did fire it up and go for a short romp - felt great!! not sure they reset TPS but did fix my rear break - re-bled it and tightened some connections. $202 so not too bad - I plan on doing them myself from here on out! Will have to see how it runs on a longer ride before I get the VDTS out.

I broke mine in by the book.

I now have 2700 miles. My last tank the fuel light came on at 162 miles or so (mountainous road). I refueled at 171 miles.

The bike only needed 3.7 gallons.

46.22mpg.

My mileage has been steadily improving. My bike's power output seems to be improving as well.

Regards,

Jim in Santa Barbara

The hot right leg syndrome seems to be caused by the fan coming on and blowing the heat off the rear cylinder. I don't see how ceramic coating the pipes will help whatsoever. Save your money.

Cuts the amount of heat in the area - over in knowledge vault someone acutally measured before and after and reduced temps by @1/3

My right leg gets hot UNTIL the fan comes on, then cools drastically. Just prior to the fan coming on I'm thinking, boy I sure wish my fan would come on!

I just got the Special OPS heat barriers (under seat and right side) but it's been raining for the better part of a week and a half. I'll give a report if it ever dries out

4600 miles and I'm getting about 49mpg (not very easy on the gas).

I like this bike!

Constant 50MPG plus on last 4 tanks. Fuel light comes on around 180 miles, I ride to 200 and fill up. Last fill up 200.5 miles with 3.9 gallons for an average of 51.4 per gallon. The type of riding is commuting on back roads, small town 25 MPH stop & go, and occasional interstate (well above the legal limit to keep up with traffic. The bike has 3600 miles on it and is stock with all 3 bags.
