I think it looks good. It is 4" taller than stock Buell issue but wider. Cut it with a jig saw and then hand sanded the top. My head and neck are in smooth air flow. Works pretty good and is actually quite nice with my half helmet. Doesn't rip it off my head, at least at under 60 mph. Haven't tried it with the 1/2 helmet any faster than that. Last but not least, it's bolted on. Should stay put.     | ||

Looks good, but, FWIW, the 2.5 CB screen accomplishes the same goal (for me at least) without having to make any modifications. No problems with it staying put at interstate speeds. | ||

Craig, What size Cee Bailey did you start with? It looks like the #2 touring windshield but 14" or 16" to start I can't tell. Trying to set up for LD rides. Putting my hand (sideways) above stock shield gets my helmet out of the dirty air. Current stock screen is bad enough to make my Arai shield vibrate. Thanks for the info and pictures of your mod. That started life as a 14". I taped it with duct tape so that I used the top edge of the tape as my sawing line. Hand sanding with coarse sandpaper while wearing a 3M dust mask did the rest. It looks like it came from the factory after the sanding took out the roughness of the jig saw cut. Sand paper on a block worked the best for smoothing. And you don't want the edge to be shiny because it will glare with the sun so only use coarse sandpaper. (Message edited by electraglider_1997 on May 11, 2006) | ||

I did the same thing. Started with a 12" and cut it to 9 1/2". The CeeBailey is wider than the Buell tall shield, so it blocks the wind off my shoulders, but keeps the air around the helmet clean. I measure 6'-2", so you will have to find that happy spot if your height is different. The other nice thing about the Ceebaily taller shields is that they screw on, not just snap on with the rubber bushings, so I felt better about the attachment. My shield was a pour fit from the factory. Developed stress cracks at the screw holes. They are replacing it right now, including cutting it to the height I wanted, at no charge to me. There was not argument from them about replaceing it. Shows their concern for good customer service. A find tooth bastard file works well for smoothing out the top edge after cutting it. Faster than sand paper, and will even it out as well as clean it up. Then all you need to do is touch it up with sandpaper. | ||

I cut my 16" down to 10" and it works fine for me. Used a dremmel for the first cut and used my belt sander for the next step and then some sand paper.  Mike Long Island, NY 06 XB12X Black of course | ||

Fly, Be careful when cutting. The saw line had a tendency to mend itself because of the scroll speed. Earlier I called it a jig saw and I knew that wasn't right. Had to cut through twice. The upper (scrapped) piece snapped in two when I was removing it. Not a big deal but that is Acrylic and it is somewhat brittle. Wear goggles and a mask when cutting as I don't recommend breathing the dust. Happy mods. | ||

I cut the screen down on my old GS and I used a hack saw. I used masking tape as a guide and went really slow. Worked great. Just remember to get one of those hack saws that doesn't have the big frame or you won't make it all the way through. | ||

If you don't have access to a scroll saw then you might try a vicegripped hacksaw blade. Might work. Scroll saw made short work of it though. Don't worry about a rough cut because you just sand them out later. Elbow grease by Armstrong. | ||

97 FLH..tci...jklmnop. Sorry got a little carried away there. I ride a FLH also and always loved the Harley alphabet soup. It means something for those who can decipher the code with their secret owners decoder ring.  OK I'm back, just ordered a CeeBailey shield. Going to use a hacksaw blade in one of those open ended blade holders to start. If it takes to long it might be a good excuse to go visit my brother, he has a variable speed scroll saw and only lives 600 miles north....can you say road trip. I will post a purtyful picture but you might not notice the shield because my Uly is BLACK! I noticed right off yours is too so I'm sure you understand. Thanks again. Tim |
