This past weekend on the "Dave's Ride your Uly to the U.P." ride was a complete gas but I did drop the bike in the mud and learned a few things. Take tools! If it had not been for Kreature and his tool kit I would still be out there(not really,I could've rode back in 2nd gear,slowly) I dumped the bike going no more than a fast walk pace and in the mud and soft dirt. Yet the fall bent the bracket that bolts to the primary and drops down for the shifter to bolt onto. When that bent it bent/broke the end of the shifter linkage rod. It also bent the flange bolt that hold the shifter on the bike. We could not bend the bracket back into position. I was surprised that much stuff got bent in such a low speed, soft landing crash. Soooo, If you are going off road take along Bracket for shifter Flange bolt Shifter linkage Shifter(I didn't break mine but you might) Tools needed to remove and replace these parts. We tried a couple different things before we got it fixed the way we did.  | ||

I always carry a pair of small vise grips on all my bikes especially ones that will see the dirt. They can also be used for a shift lever or a clutch or brake lever or pedal. | ||

Take along some zip ties as well. Which also work good as a safety belt for that vise grip to keep it from accidently letting loose. | ||

I always ride with Stephen or Chauly (I call him Chuck) the world's "most prepared motorcyclists". No cheap shots from Anon about my 17# in the front tire and Stephen whipping out a portable air compressor.....I mean. . . at least I knew it handled "odd".  |
