If anyone wants my stock front 616 make me an offer. See ad in classifieds about 2 months ago. The tire has only 900 easy street miles and is in like new condition. Location is NC.

For the record, my bike has the stock tires with only about 900 miles. The bike is outstanding except for the awful wobble in the front end when I'm going 70+ mph. A very unstable feeling. I've had Suzuki's, Honda's, and a Harley, and never had any wobble like this. Thanks for the advice "Jlnance"...I'll give that a try tomorrow.

OK I said the 616s were total crap but I didn't really say why. I did have good performance from them and I have never had the wobbly stuff at speed. Only the decel at 45 MPH with hands off the bars thingy.
I still have that but it doesn't really bother me. To credit the 616s, they do stick like glue to the pavement in all conditions.

However, if you like to pony up with $150 or so every time you change your oil then far be it from me to tell you otherwise.

So far I am very happy with the Avon's and I doubt I will ever go back to the Dunlops.
The Avon's were solidly planted even in 150 miles of rain returning home. They still look new after 800 hard miles when the 616's would be half done by now.

Hi Steve,

I just paid $119 for a rear D616 plus another $20 to have it mounted and balanced (I R&R the wheel on the bike at home).

What are Avons costing?

The other problem I've had in the past with my S2, which appears will manifest itself on the Uly is I burn through rear tires. D205 (or was it the 204?), D220, BT-010, BT-020, M-1 Sportec, it didn't matter. About 3k to 3500 miles and steel was showing. No burnouts either.

I've never found a rear tire I could get 4k out of on a Buell.

Maybe it's my riding style?

Front end wobble? Okay, mine did it coming round I-485 this AM. It's not something I'd want to deal with continually,,,,so what are the changes that eliminate it?

The initial rider feedback was exactly like the prelude to a tank slapper -- been there and it sucks. Suspension is setup, by the book, for touring (don't remember the turn-outs, but basically as stiff as it'll go.)

Greg - I don't think you're talking about the same thing as the rest of us.

I just changed my original 616's to the Sync's at 8000 miles. Front 616 still looks new. Rear was at the wear bars at 7800 miles. 4000 of those miles were in outside temps of 25 to 40 degs. That could be one reason for lasting so long. I will need further testing on the Sync's to give any comments. Will be riding to Rolling Thunder this weekend to brake them in. Ran the bike up to 100 this morning and no wobble issues. Bags were not installed but I was riding with the tour pack on.

M2nc,

Don't fault the Pirelli's. I've owned several sets, and they are marvelous tires. They were the only tires my big heavy FJR1300 wouldn't chew up in 1500 miles. Never had a failure on one. I did pick up a nail in the rear of the one on my Uly, but it was patched and I continue to ride on it....agressively.

Sticks like glue, handles well, and with 1700 miles on it, still looks new (the 616 rear was bald at 2000 miles. Same roads, same bike, same rider).

M2nc, suck about the tire. Glad it didn't cause a wreck. Get in touch with the Pirelli rep. I'm sure they would be very interested in seeing this tire and may get you another one. I ran a set of Diablo's and had no problems.

Chad & Mike thanks for the feedback. I don't want to hijack this thread so I started another in Quick Board and I put a picture of the tire in it.

Ok guys, finally here is an update to my May 14 posting. I was having a BAD speed wobble problem.

I finally got a chance to run the freeways this morning before traffic and cops got too active. The main problem was too many turns on the rear shock. A constant wobble was present at 80+ and now runs clean to 110. At 110 I got a slight weave on some runs, but had a 20+mph crosswind.

So the Buell tall shield check out fine and was not the problem.

Glad to hear you got it figured out. If you need to increase rear shock pre-load in the future, just up the front fork pre-loads. I have the front at 5 1/2 lines and that allows me to increase rear shock pre-load with minimal affect on the handling. You just do not want to change your rake and trail with pre-load again.
