Well first off lucky to even be writting this. I was going down the hi-way today enjoying the sun. When my tall windshield comes flying off and hits my helmet. Man did it hurt it actully gave me a headache. I tried to find it but couldn't, so now I have to goto the dealer and hope to get my money back. I wasnt even going that fast, and it was installed correctly. To give you an idea how hard it hit, it ripped the vent off the top of my arai helmet... I wonder if they will cover the cost of a new helmet for me as well! Anyways i'm choaked and luckily I didn't bail, i thoguht I was gonna. So for those with the tall windshield be warned!

I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt. It looks
like the taller windshields will need to be bolted to the flyscreen to keep them from taking flight.

Windaddiction,
First of all, I'm glad to hear that you are OK.I had the lower part of the windshield pop off at 75. The upper attachment plugs held. I'm convinced that I didn't have it properly seated because I was suspicious that the bottom of the shield didn't look as tight to the fly screen as the stock screen did. This is after applying repeated pressure to the lower mounts. I'm not suggesting that's what happened to you. I pulled off the road and popped it back in with a firm wack with the bottom of my palm on all of the mounting points. The screen looked like it was mounted correctly this time. I got back on the highway and it was good for an extended period at 75 to 80 mph. My shield does not line up with the mounting points as well as the stock shield does. I think that Buell should spec the gap at the bottom of the shield so that there would be no question that it was properly seated.

After hearing about the issues with this I was worried when I installed my Laminar Lip. I did notice a lot of flexing at speed. I installed a clear rubber bumper to prevent the flexing and have had no issues in 3K miles.

Why you guys trust those windshields to rubber pins is beyond me. Bolt them down and quit worrying about them. No sense in loosing an eye, breaking a nose or knocking out teeth or worse just because Buell sells an item they apparently haven't put through the testing wringer. Before you know it they will be including bolts and metal backing strips with those larger shields. Maximizing profit ahead of good safety testing isn't the way Buell should of handled this item. I'd say, "Wake up Buell", but apparently they aren't reading this web site or they would have seen the problems reported with the CeeBailey shields flying off.

My screen is so hard to pull off that it feels like it's going to break when I'm pulling it off.

I think the mounting system is pretty darn stout. But I might change my mind if my screen comes flying off.

Just got back from another 60 minute slab drone at 70 to 80 mph. There was a lot of cross wind and I stayed in the turbulence behind a truck for a while to stress the mounts. No problem at all. I more convinced that my problem was an installation error on my part rather than a design fault with the mounting system. I do however, have an issue with the installation process. This should have been mistake proofed before it was released to production. A simple feeler gage to assure the gap to the flyscreen was within spec is all it would take.

When i installed my CeeBailey +2.5 I pulled the front cover off and then removed the factory one off and installed the CB, making sure that the mounting pins were all of the way through the rubber mounting plugs.
I rode at 80mph into a 25-30 mph headwind with no problems. I think that those of you that install the Buell +4 should consider adding a stick on rubber bumper in the center of the screen toward the top of the front cover to prevent the taller windshield from flexing back too far. The CB comes with one attached and it ends up touching at 70 - 80 mph.

Heres a shot of the Cee B bumper. Just a little stick on thing. It seems like it would take quite a bit of pressure off the bottom screen mounting pins. It doesn't touch the orange part of the screen until you are up to speed.

My CB screen has the same rubber bumper. My only gripe is that it should have been a clear bumper instead of a black one. That black dot on my windsheld makes my fast orange Uly look slower. : )

You can get lovely clear ones at most hardware stores for less than $2. Might make your orange Uly more presentable...such as it is.

As usual the HD dealers as a whole(DaveS
excluded) will not support Buell products or
customers. Let's not make any hotheaded impulsive decisions we will regret. I also wanted to get rid of mine and take my losses.I went through two aftermarket windshields,4 feet of Saeng microswirl edging and two different laminar lips to get to a place that I think I can tolerate in terms of wind blast, noise and turbulence. If you call the
Buell customer service people I believe they will do whatever it takes to make your situation right.

oh and to top it off I need to get my front rotor warenty again... yes it warped again.... then the service guy asked me who installed the tire, and I told them I did, then he said I probally bent the rotor when I changed the rubber.... WTF I'm also gonna call the owner of the dealership, luckily my dad is friends with him, but I mean shit do I feel down about the bike at the moment

Good luck on the windshield issue.

I have the tall Cee Baileys with the bumper on it and it's fine. No problems to up over 100mph.

Brake rotor is fine too. In fact, I haven't heard of anyone having issues with the brakes.

Hope you get everything sorted out. It really is a wonderful bike.

Windaddiction,
Nice bike! I love my Uly but sometimes I feel the relationship is not mutual. One of my friends bought a wee strom. The first three rides together my Uly cut off. Found myself stopping at H---a shop last week. It is between the 919, paying off the bank, rattling around on the Sporty or to work on my relationship with the Uly aka "The Toaster"

It's a tough go... I lost a fair amount of coin on this deal, mainly cuase msrp went down like 1500 bucks cause our dollar is so strong now... 919 is sweet bike though... the real problem there are too many bikes not enough money and no time to ride them!

You got that right! I got a serious bike problem. When I was in high school I wanted a Yamaha 650 special II (late 70's)and I have trouble driving by a Triumph dealer to this day, but I dare go inside. The Yamaha Special 1 was $400.00 more than the II and it had too much chrome. Something about air cooled vert. twin stuff that I can't explain. I guess I am showing my age. I was thinking the 919 would break me of my bad habits. I was hoping this Uly would bring me into the next Century but it is becoming a sort of cyber AMF Gen. X hybrid for me. If I had 1/2 a day with the Buell folks I think they would see that they have a great product but they need to get some things straight. They are trying to sell these bikes to the wrong market and they are selling them in a place that the right market does not frequent. They are not supporting the old school folks and the new school folks are not supporting them. I hope that I am wrong though. I usually am! Enjoy your new ride. The important thing is that you ride!

Back in November we installed a +6 Cee Bailey's and it came off on the first test ride. It also hit me between the eyes at 70 MPH. I posted on BW and got the same ration of CR** from several BWer's about how they have never had any issues at 100+. However the fokes at Cee Bailey took the two remaining +4s back giving us credit for three +2s. They also sent a letter and called to see if everything was OK. It seems like they are a stand up company who cares about their customers. Too bad some of our BW Brothers don't seem to feel the same way. ... Terry

So it's crap if they have a different experience than you? I think the other members relay their experiences and ask questions about yours to try to find out why the product didn't work for you. In the end, it helps others considering these products make more informed decisions.

Hi I installed the taller windshield, thanks Dave, and ride a 700 km trip with a top speed of 190 km per hour, no issues only the upper pins were pushed with the wind force, normal. The end of the story I crashed the bike in a junction, collision with a car. Waiting for repairing the bike...shit happens
