Hello to the group. I've have around 3900 miles on the Ulysses now and I have been very happy with it's performance.

However, at around 500 miles I noticed a slight film of oil on the underside of the cases adjacent to the belt tensioning idler. Further inspection revealed that was coming from behind the front pulley.

I kept an eye on it right up till my 1000 mile service and it never became any worse. In fact it has never been enough to form a drip even after 3900 miles.

I had the dealer confirm it an note the leak in the service record and they ordered the replacement seal.

The seal is in now and I have finally scheduled the service for this Friday.

So here is my question(s)for the group.

1) Have any of you experienced any weeping form your Countershaft seal?

2)Would you replace the seal now or just keep an eye on it and have the new seal installed down the road before the warranty runs out?

3)Is the seal accessible from behind the pulley easily or will they have to split the cases?

I really dread having the dealer work on the bike since its really not a problem and at times it seems to stop all together.

Any and all input is appreciated.

Coming from chain driven bikes I'm used to seeing a filthy mess under the countershaft sproket cover.

This area is very hard to keep clean even on a belt driven bike.

A little oil seepage around a seal is normal. When it is in such a dirty non-washed area such as under a countershaft sprocket it becomes even more apparent.

When I pulled my cover off at about 5K mi I was suprised how dirty it was. The combination of belt dust and a SMALL amount of seeped oil was quite a mess.

The warranty is for 2 years. I have lots of time to wait before it becomes an issue. The main thing is to watch for oil contamination on the drive belt.

I'm not sure what it takes to change the seal, probabally just a removal of the countershaft pulley I would guess.

I agree about having any unnecessary warranty work done on the bike. Some times things can get screwed up worse than if a minor issue is left alone.

Notes based on my previous bike, an M2, which should apply to the Uly as well.

1) Have any of you experienced any weeping form your Countershaft seal?

Experienced both a capilary action type weep like you describe, and later a (unrelated) complete failure of the seal after I rebuilt the transmission.

2)Would you replace the seal now or just keep an eye on it and have the new seal installed down the road before the warranty runs out?

I would keep an eye on it, and leave it be unless it failed.

3)Is the seal accessible from behind the pulley easily or will they have to split the cases?

You do not have to split the cases to replace the seal, but you probably do to replace the bearing.
