Just curious if anyone has looked into or thought about adding a bypass thermostat, and oil temp gauge to the standard oilcooler on the Uly, or any XB for that matter? Living in Maine I ride in temps reaching into the low 30's-40's much of the time and have experienced condensation problems even though most of my rides are at least 30 miles in length. Any thought's? |

If the fan never comes on during your rides then your engine is not getting hot enough. Try covering your oil cooler and see if that helps. I live in Nebraska and my engine gets plenty hot enough to boil off any condensate. Maybe stick a meat thermometer into the dipstick hole to measure how hot your oil is. Water boils at 212 F and the meat thermometer I have in the kitchen tops at 220 F. Next time I ride I'll check my swing arm tank oil temp this method and report here with my results. Probably way hotter than 220 I'm sure. |

I would think there was a thermostate in the oil cooler as it comes from the factory. Any cooler we have installed aftermarket have all had thermostates. This is 2006. Does anyone know if the oil cooler has a thermostate for sure. |

I am wondering the same thing. It was 34 deg out on my ride home from work tue morning. I asked the guy behind the service counter today while my bike was getting the 1000 mile, and he said he "thinks" so. I could see in his eyes he didn't know! I don't have a service manual yet, I would think that should tell you. |
