I'm confused by this. What exactly do you mean by "fuel pump kicks on" and how does enable you to sense TDC? Is there a pin that you can access to check for a voltage change at TDC? (obviously there is somewhere, but how is the fuel pump related) I'm interested in checking static timing also. Does the Techno-Research gear have ability to check static timing? |

Check this out. It even works on my X1. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=32777&post=441639#POS T441639 Al |

No, the Techno Research scan tool does not check static timing. I have used the above referenced post and it works very well. It did require an assistant to help turn the rear wheel while the other person is watching the DMM. |

I just checked my timing using the fuel pump sound only and my bike is a little early. It was very consistent. The mark came up to the left of 12 o'clock each time the pump cycled on with the TDC mark visible. That would explain my slight pre-ignition problem. Thanks again Steveford for the info on the fuel pump!! |

Glad to help. Only works on the XBs, by the way. |

Drgreg, I apologize for not responding sooner to your post. I too was working on a bullet proof solution. It appears Raceautobody has answered your/our question. My bike has some pre-ignition issues under load when it is hot. I am going to change my timing as soon as my software and adapter arrive. I want to reset the TPS first. It is important not to make too many changes at once w/o testing so that the remedy is nailed down. } (Message edited by davo on April 26, 2006) |
