I've seen reference to a soon-to-be discontinued "race kit" that includes an exhaust, ECU and air filter. How much does said kit cost and what does it offer in real world performance gains? Weight loss? I think I'd like to have an honest 100 HP at the rear wheel. My current bikes are more like 115/120 HP and I don't want to lose too much passing power for those short straights in the WV mountains.

I've narrowed my "short list" for an all-roads bike to the Multistrada and the Ulysses. No real off-road planned, but more than a few dirt/gravel roads. I really need to demo a Uly somewhere.

Your Kawasaki also only has 48 ft-lbs of torque. Ride a Uly and see if you miss the 30 HP or so from the Kawi.

Agreed. If it really is the twisty roads you'll be riding, even if a race kit nets you something like the HP shown on the charts from the KDFab site, you're not going to feel like you're short anything thanks to the torque inherent with this bike.

My other bike is a Kaw 10R, and I can cover really twisty backroads quicker and with allot less effort on the ULY depsite my stock Uly putting about half the HP to the rear wheel! Oh yeah, and that's on the paved roads... There's not much comparison on the gravel ones.

Having owned a Ducati at the time I purchased the Uly, I too thought of the Multistrada. The Multistrada is like a mini Uly. It feels very cramped compared to the Uly.

I can get you about 91-92 RWHP out of the race kit if you want to have it re-mapped with the Direct Link mapping

If you want 100 you'll need to go with the Micron full system and the re-mapping

Dave,

Can you re-map the stock ECU as well as the race version?

Dave,
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.
Do you have a standard re-map for a stock bike to cure the lean factory mapping? If so, what's involved turn-around and cost wise? I like my bike as is but it could be smoother down low.
Thanks

Dave if a person can remap the stock ECM why would we want to buy a racing ECM. Sounds like a no minder to me. Remap the stock ECM to what you need or buy a race ECM and remap it?????? Can you elaborate on this for me.

I thought the primary difference was price? Race ECU is $200, DirectLink is $500ish?

Hux,
I am working on getting a map done for that.
Give me some time, it is spring in WI and everyone wants their bikes serviced at once.

The race ecm is 188.95 thru me,it works well with the race kit it was designed for and will work good with other pipes as well.

Direct link gives us the ability to re-map the stock ECM.
On a 12 when you change the muffler and lose the internal valve in the muffler you either have to leave the servo hooked up or run the emulator thingy to fool the re-mapped stock ecm into thinking the valve is still there or you get an engine code.

We have gotten slightly better results using a re-mapped race ecm but the difference is small and I don't really know why. You also do not need the emulator or leave the servo in place.

So you can get the race ecm at 188.95

Direct link your stock ecm for about 400.00

or Direct link re-map a race ecm for about 688.00

What about other add on fuel modifiers like Power Commander and such. Does this take a lot more dyno time (cost) to get dialed in? Just asking cause I'm waiting on my Special Ops pipe and want to know what options I have down the road if I make intake changes. Thanks,
Tim

The nice thing about the DL is there are no extra boxes, wires, splices or anything
If you do other mods in the future all you have to do is build a map for those mods.

Sorry Dave I misunderstood, I was chasing a cheaper option. I thought you were re-mapping the stock ECU without having to purchase the entire Direct link set-up, just a fee for the re-map or??? The Race kit is very appealing but after the purchase of the bike, all new gear for the wifey and I (just moved to Maine from Hawaii, a tad different)and all the little things, $600 bucks is hard to part with before the race kit dies on May 31st. Plus I really need hardbags, heated grips, GPS, a better job, etc...etc...
