I've noticed that when I fill up when the light comes on, or within 10mi of it, I can only get 3gal or so into the tank. All the posts I've seen seem more on target with the specs, 4.4gal tank, light comes on with .8 remaining, put ~3.5 into the tank. Seems I'm off by about 1/2gal. On my BMW RT the light was controlled by a float, and depending on the bike would vary the reserve. Similar setup here? |

I don't know about all those measurements but my Uly will do 40 Miles on reserve. I've tested it twice. Once deliberately and once by accident |

I think there is some sort of electric thermocouple that senses the presence of fuel at a certain level within the tank. So far mine seems to work as designed....the light comes on when approx. 8/10ths of a gallon remains in the tank. There is no float in the tank. |

40 miles on reserve would be spot-on for 50mpg. (40mi/50mpg=.8ga). That is a pretty accurate average for my typical mpg also. |

I've never got 50mpg. Best mileage I've ever seen was 47mpg. Most of the time I see 42 or 43mpg. I typically don't push it past about 20 miles. I haven't run out yet. |

Hmm...my MPG is great. I did 164mi on exactly 3.0 gal of fuel. But the odd part is I was 10mi into the fuel light but only got 3gal into the tank... Either I've got 1.4 gal of fuel left...or..??? |

Hi Steve, When my low fuel light comes on I usually run about another 10-20 miles and then I have been able to get about 3.5 to 3.8 gallons in the tank to top it off again. I have been getting from 44 to 50 MPG so far. Happy Trails, WindRider |

My light came on today, gassed up within 5 miles and squeezed 3.56 gallons in. Also calculated my mileage to 41mpg. |

40-50 mpg for me. I usually expect around 43-45 for commuting. I have seen 50 mpg on a number of long excursions. I have gone as far as 30 miles on the light, but would not go past that. |

How full do you fill the tank? I fill it just to the bottom of the filler neck... |

My first foray into the reserve lasted 27.8 miles before it died on the road. It was into a 30 mph headwind to be fair. I wont go over 25 miles if I can help it. I am getting around 42 mpg average. I fill to the bottom ring. I appears the the upper cavity has a vent hose attached. I am also guessing the gas will expand when nestled around the engine as it is. no sense wasting gas by letting it run on the ground or along the highway. |

I wonder if that one station I filled up is giving free gas. 2 fillups today, both right after the light. Both ~3.8gal, same as reported here. Woo! MPG varies greatly depending on speed it seems. Just droaning at 80MPH drops it quite a bit compared to back-roads. |

Steven, I've not taken a slab trip on my M2 where I ran a whole tank and a steady 70 or so, I was sort of wondering what that would do to the mileage. At 3,500 RPM I get about 73 MPH, I was thinking that might not be worse for mileage than the 45-50 MPG I get in around town driving. I'm going to have to make a point to to that just to find out.
