I did 350 miles on Sunday. Perhaps 80 - 100 of that on dirt/gravel roads. The 616's were peachy. Only one sandy stretch, per my plan I remained seated with my weight back and the head wobbled a bit but not too badly. I don't think it's a tire issue but rather a geometry issue.
Otherwise the bike was fine for extended off pavement riding, hitting speeds as high as 80mph.
I'm cautious on the rain ruts because the 17" wheel seems to drop down in a bit more. I tried to loosen up the fork compression only to find it was nearly all the way out. Hmmm...
She's still a bit harsher on stutter bumps and embedded rocks than I would prefer; I'm still using full street air pressure in the tires. No issues with rim denting, no real damage except for some rock scratches on the bottom of the exhaust - the front tire will occasionally toss one up.
At about 2700 miles the rear tire is rapidly losing tread; I'm guessing 3k and it will be a slick in the center.
Meanwhile cornering grip is wonderful, got several opportunities riding with a guy on a 600cc sport bike to see just how far over she could go - no worries, grip is good.

Lorazepam - My business partner runs those (Shinkos) on his ZX12R. They have been holding up real well. He drag races weekly on test and tune night at the local track. It's amazing how long they have lasted. I was planning on buying some for my next tire change. |

3300 mi. and I am going to need some tires SOON! I also need to find some tire tools ie. irons and a bead breaker that will not tear up my wheels. Any recommendations? Thanks for the lead on the tires!! |

I just changed the rear 616 on my Uly with over 8 thousand miles. Would have gone to ten, but my drivebelt broke, and I'm a skinflint and didn't want to pay the labor on the tire when I could get it for free under warranty. They've done me great on street and dirt. I ate it trying them out in the snow, but was running about 800 lbs loaded up, and 35+ mph. Here in Oregon I ride with my buddy on his KLR 650 and whatever shoes they come with stock. He can't go anywhere that I can't. Excepy maybe the bigger hill climbs. Mud, dirt, rocks, street and snow the Dunlops are a pretty good mix. On my Superhawk I had Dunlop D208's and would be lucky to get 4000 out of them, and wouldn't dare take them off road. |
