Well I finally got to go on a nice, week long ride down through and around southern Utah last week. The Uly had a fresh Drummer SS (with internal steel reinforcement), Buell Race ECM, K&N air filter with open airbox conversion, heated grips, Cee Baileys +2.5" wind screen, and a full 1000 mile service performed by me. The weather was threatening, yet it never did get too ugly. I think that that, along with the somewhat early time of year made for the feeling of being the only one out there! I rode on mostly backroads, and a lot of dirt road and jeep trails. I put in almost 1800 miles with my longest day being 360 miles. Boy oh boy the Uly sure did perform terrificly!The only mechanical issue was a mirror coming loose on some major washboard roads...not too big a fix! I did have one day however that I had too bum Gas from (luckily) the one guy I happened to see all day, and he was pulled over in a turnout. He had a drz400 mounted up on his front bumper of his big Dodge pickup and we were able to use his breather hose hooked to the shut off valve of his tank and slowly put enough gas to get me the last 50 miles to the next gas station. I'm not sure that I wouldn't have made it, but my reserve light was on and I had made too many mods to go by mileage alone. I'm new to this road motorcycling game and I sure do like it! Any way I road all around Boulder and Escalante, Lake Powell and Halls crossing, Mexican hat, Valley of the Gods, Glen Canyon Dam, North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon and all points in between and sometimes I'd turn around and ride a rode opposite from the way I had just come because it was so good!!! Roads to not miss if in the area are...state highway 12 from Grover to Escalante, state highway 24 from Hanksville to Grover, the "Burr trail" from Boulder to Bullfrog Basin, state highway 261 from Arches N.P. to Mexican Hat, state highway 9 through Zion N.P. and any of the dirt road/jeep trails that spider web throughout the area. Not every "town" on the map has gas, so pay attention and when in doubt...stop and fill up! Here are some pics from the first 3 days of my trip before my cameras' batteries pooped out.
