We have a trip planned for Baja at the end of this month, and a trip around So. Utah sometime here soon.

Being that most guys here only like to look at their bikes, I say lets ride 'em!

Hello Dave,

Are you looking for me? Or another Jim?

Anyway, I've had my Uly since last September.

I'd LOVE to do Baja with you guys, but I am already booked that week - my Brother is coming in from the East coast to visit.

I'd also really enjoy UTAH! Not sure if I can make the dates work - but I'm very interested.

Keep us posted; I'll look for info. at ADV rider.

PS. Given the damage to your wheels and to M's tires on the GS I've gotta believe you guys went too low on pressures. I think it's going to take some experimentation and close monitoring to figure out what we can (and can't) get away with. I'm going to leave the Uly tire pressures by the book, even off-pavement, until traction becomes an issue (crossing a sand wash for example). Then we'll see what we see.

Best,

Jim in Santa Barbara

Sorry I though you were still debating which bike to get!

I think I'll leave my tire pressures alone this time as well. That will be a $700+ learning experience!

Havent decided when to do the Utah trip, I'm thinking a bit later, cause of all the late snow fall, and run off we'll be getting, so that could be messy.

But I'd sure like to NOT be the only one on a Uly!

I'm sure there are just as many scenic places to ride there in CA. but the other dudes mentioned wanting to come to Utah. ?

Hi Dave,

I would love to join you for Utah On Ulys. My grandfather used to own property in St. George, so I've been there a few times. Zion and Bryce are gorgeous.

It is a "hike" from Santa Barbara though. Perhaps some time in June? I'll check with the Warden re the calendar.

Best,

Jim in Santa Barbara

Trailer the bike out and bring the Warden (thats funny)! What is it, maybe 6-7 hour drive? Do that on a Fri. nite, we'll take off Sat. Morning.

Does your grandfather still have the property? The prices here have doubled, then doubled again! Our lot is worth more than our house now! Thanks to all you Californians, who come here and say "you only want $90K for the lot? We'll take two!" So the builders bought up almost all the lots and now get $190-260K for the lots! That blows for us local blue collar working dudes.

Hi Dave,

Mapquest says SB to St. George is 476 miles - 7 hours and 9 minutes (they must make good time!).

I think that's ambitious - by the time you stop for gas, food, etc. it's more likely 9 hours at least. Long haul for sure. And that's taking the freeways (yuck). We haven't even discussed LA to Vegas traffic both ways. (ugly)

Realistically I should allow more time to do Utah properly. I hate riding 2 days to get somewhere then rushing around when I'm "there".

We'll see. It's definitely a great place to ride.

PS. My grandfather sold the property there a long time ago. He owned it back in the 70's. Probably sold it in the 80's.

PPS. 90k is cheap for a lot. :-)

Regards,

Jim in Santa Barbara
