Anyone using the pack on its own with the tail perhaps or the full rack and pack system? When it arrives the Uly is going to be my commuter. I don't need the hard pannier or top box system.
Looking at the pictures on their website the rack doesn't appear too intrusive, especially if the pack rack is removed while not in use.

I've been using the Ventura Enduro bag just on the triple tail for several months. I works a treat without the need to buy the Ventura rack. The downside is that it only really works with the bag facing forward. It doesn't work if you carry a pillion and face the bag to the rear because the bag is not supported at the base and if you have a load in it it will obscure the rear light. I may end up buying the Ventura rack for summer touring so that I can face the bag forward and carry a roll bag on the rack as well.

Thanks for your comment. I'm guessing that without the pack rack part fitted, the triple tail could also be used in its rear position. With the pack rack the tail could still be used upright?

I use it as a gym bag easy on and off and fits in the locker. I dont even bother to tie it down here it is even when jumping it will not move much

You can also zip two back to back

Hi Tel,

We use a ventura bag, no rack, straight onto the back rest. When we go two up, we just turn the bag upside down with the back rest laid out flat.

We have done some distance with it on dirt roads and it did not move. Because it becomes a front end loader we just have to double check that we have zipped it before taking off.

Can get Opto to let you know which one and how it ties down if you want.

Thanks Bindy and all
You've convinced me I don't need the rack. Might just buy the Spada and Delta bags.

Hi Tel,

I don't know what the various models available in the US are called but I have two Ventura bags and they have different mounting strap dimensions.
I bought a 35 litre one for my ZX-12 a few years back and the mounting straps were too far apart to easily use on the ZX-12 rack (11" from outside strap edge to outside strap edge). The correct one for my ZX-12 rack is 9 + 3/4" from strap edge to strap edge and I have found it is a bit more fiddly to mount because the Uly grab-rail mounts are about 9" apart.
I use the 11" / 35 ltr one on the Uly every day to carry my wet weather gear, lunch office clothes etc for my commute and it is a perfect fit.
When two-up the bag can be readily mounted to the beaver tail in the rearward position and as Bindy has noted - make sure the top is done up!
I was forced to come up with a daily luggage solution during the 16 week wait for the hard bags & top box - it has proven to be so convenient the hard luggage is still sitting in its shipping boxes waiting for when I go touring !
