I got my Drummer today and I was looking at it and the stock exhaust. If you go under the Uly and take a look at the exhaust you will see that it points directly at the rear swing arm and rear brake area. Knowing the oil is in the swing arm I couldn't help but wonder how much that will effect the oil temperature once you are underway. I also don't think it is a good thing to have the hot exhaust directed at the rear brake. I am going to carry the infrared temp reader with me and I am going to try and do some testing with the stock exhaust and the new Drummer. I am sure the oil will not get as hot once the exhaust is redirected away from the swing arm. Any one else notice this on the Uly? |

Nice observation. Let us know the results. |

While you are moving I doubt it makes much difference. If you were stopped, idling for an hour or so it might? |

I just know if I was designing an exhaust I wouldn't point it directly at the oil tank or the rear disc. It certainly doesn't help things. I also noticed that anyone who has but on an aftermarket exhaust says there fan runs less. Maybe because the hot exhaust is diverted from the swing arm. |

"I also noticed that anyone who has (put) on an aftermarket exhaust says there fan runs less." That's a new one for me. Fans run less as the engine is broken in. |

The amount of heat at idle coming from the exhaust is minimal and shouldn't make a lot of difference in stop and go traffic. At 75 mph the stream of hot exhaust is quite substantial and I don't think it gets moved too much by the wind. I wish the bike had an oil temp guage to see how this really effects the oil temperature. Just put your hand down at the exhaust and have a friend rev the engine to about 4000 rpm. Then quadruple that for an engine under load like at 75mph. Very substantial I would think. At the very least Buell should be moding the exhaust tips on every bike they made. I would be surprised if the outlets are not changed next model year |

Granted I haven't ridden the bike in weather above 75 degrees, but my fan rarely comes on while riding anymore and I'm still running conventional oil. I'm sure summer heat will yield a different result. It will come on in stop and go, and when I shut the bike off. |
