I finally got to plunk my butt down on a Ulysses on Sunday (although only inside the dealership). I can't believe it - a bike that fits me? I almost can flat foot both feet...heels are about an inch off the ground. Legs are comfortable when on the pegs, and the overall feel of the bike is just more my size.

So I want to know who has gone from an R to an X. What are the pros/cons of doing so? Does the longer wheelbase really mean I won't be able to corner as well? Will I notice it? I'm seriously considering trading in the R and I wanted to gather other people's feedback who have done the same. I like the bigger seat, hard bags, and passenger section. I'm hoping to take it for a ride next month when the snow is gone.

Thoughts??? Especially from anybody 6'1" and over 250lbs...

Sometimes the fun begins, when the road ends!

I know there's the "off road" capabilities which I'll be gaining...although I have no qualms about taking my Firebolt down a logging trail. Gets some funny looks when I do. I used to do some pretty interesting hill climbs with my S2. Stuff where you do not stop, nor do you gun it. If you do, you're screwed.

I'm kinda curious about the street differences...what do I lose in handling/performance?

Cruisin',

Your question should be "What will I gain in street performance?".

On a race track, I don't think you'll gain anything.

In the real world on less than perfect roads you'll gain much.

Haven't done the same roads on an R model Buell, but this thing gets me up and down tail of the dragon better than my Kaw 10R does.

I don't know what it is exactly, but this thing is way faster around corners than you expect it to be! I consistently enter corners 5 to 10 mph faster on this than I do on "pure" sportbikes... Plus you get the whole hooligan thing as a bonus. Oh yeah, and the whole comfort/long distance thing too...

Wow, I'm still sold on this bike!

I'm not quite your size but the Ulysses is quite a bit more comfortable than the Firebolt and it handles the bumps better than anything I've ever ridden.
I don't think that it'll slow you down at all on the street.

Cruisin, I went from a XB9R to a XB12X.
Believe me! I never went into a corner faster than with my XB12X. I scare myself!
I loved my 9R and only miss "Racer feel" and "Racer Look"
I've owned Buells for 10 years and still have a 99 S3 & 98 S1 also.

Dude just do it! I came off a 2001 S3T that I spent much moolah to get the suspension good for my roundly body type.

I'm 5'10" on a good day and average about 295 lbs.

Once I figured out the settings on the Uly I was totally blown away at how it handles.

Even with my 200+ wife on the back I find my friends using me as the benchmark to keep up with!

Bottom line is this bike literally feels like it's on rails! I've never had a bike feel so planted and smooth on virtually any surface.

You won't be dissapointed.

I have my 9R and my Uly, they are different rides. My 9R has the racekit, I'll keep it for trackdays, fun rides with the BRAG groups. The Uly, well, its gonna be my commuter, do it all bike. Just had it in Daytona, it was a pit bike, gas hauler, people getter, grocery wagon, and a FUN ride to be on. So would I trade the R? Maybe, just remember the Uly can do a lot more and for longer rides it is more comfortable.
Good luck!

I went from an R to a X, and now am thinking about re-buying an R. They are two different bikes for sure. The only comparisons are same manufacture etc. I love my Ulysses and am having fun loading it up and hitting the dirt it does great, but the front end feels way light and no where near as balanced as R. I spend more time commuting so I like the Ulysses better for city and taller guys. Firebolt is a great bikes for track that Ulysses cant do.
