The odometer went over 100 miles on the way to work this morning. Figured I'd give a mini report.

The grin factor on this machine is amazing. It may just be me coming from five years of HD Touring bikes (FLHP & FLHT). I will go on record saying, if this bike was available in Oct 04 I probably would have bought it and forgotten about the Eglide after I sold my Police King (FLHP). Don’t get me wrong I love my Eglide, its a great bike. To give an analogy the Eglide is like a Bulldozer, Strong, Heavy and does its intended job very well all the time maintaining a extreme amount maneuverability in the hands of a competent operator. The Uly however is like a full size skid steer. Fast, turns instantly, can be used for a variety of purposes, all the time giving the operator a feeling of connection to the machine.

The Mrs. has taken an unusual interest in the Uly even wanting to have a sit in "her spot". I was surprised to hear her claim that it seems more spacious than the Eglide. She has made several comments about the lack of sound coming from the bike. For a person that doesn’t like any form of noise she sure is fascinated with the sound of a V-twin.... She also is a fan of being heard while in traffic. MD/DC/VA drivers seem to be permanently attached to their cell phones and don’t look when changing lanes.

Power I am pleased with at this point. Waiting to play above 3000 rpm.

I'm going to say that the steering lock does seem annoying, however I know this is not a problem with the bike, but a need for me to go back to the basics, get the cones back out in a parking lot and do drills.

Interesting comments about the diff between the big frame HD and the Uly. My last two bikes were FLSTC. I walked into the dealer just to say hello and came out with the Uly (sorta. after I read alot of these threads). My pillion warmer loves the "float" ride she gets on the back.
The bike has really put the excitement back in riding.
You are right about the steering lock though. I came into a lot as I would with the Heritage and almost layed it down at rest with her on the back. I am glad I have long legs strong enough to hold her and the bike up at a 60 degree tilt.
Let me borrow those cones.

My fiance and I sat on an ultra then the Uly at the motorcycle show. She had more room on the Uly. I have test rode one but she still needs to ride with on one. I also am trying to grow a couple of inches. That seems to be slow

Hi guys,

Weight the outside footpeg in those slow parking lot type maneuvers and just recognize you need a little room and you'll be fine.

Congrats on the Ulys. It is FUN.

Best,

Jim in Santa Barbara
