The Uly is really calling me. It will be an all wx commuter/fun bike. If I get caught in some road sand/salt/crud that road accumulate this time of the year and go down is the Frame going to dent easily?

Based on allot of past posts, it would appear not. They seem to be extremely durable at least up until the fall gets hard enough that you're more worried about you!

I dropped mine lowside on the left side. Frame puck did it's job. As did the handguard. Frame was not hit, engine wasn't hit. Outer front turn signal lens was cracked.

I replaced every piece no matter how minor the damage (most only had a scratch or two) and the bill was only $162. Can't beat that!

M2NCs wife suggest he order a case of clutch levers after he dropped his the second time.

You can read about his crash here.

Sever other people have posted similar stories. Damage to the bike was never major.

High side, and a couple of dead stop drops. Not a mark on mine save for a dime-sized scuff on the right hand guard. I have replaced a foot peg mount, clutch lever, turn signal, and a mirror. The 12-o'clock cost me a tail light, number plate bracket, and a plate light. Like Chad, I replaced anything that was scuffed except the hand guard for around $300 total. These bikes are solid.

Oh, I have. It just took Uly and me a little time to get used to one another. We have an understanding now.

Mine went down pretty hard (me too). The pucks do work and they will stay put. The bike came through it much better than I figured it would. I have before and after pics posted.

How about these crash bars?
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121047

I like it, just wonder how it affects vibration, but like the guy says, mount some Piaas, or somekind of lights to it, that would make for a great advbike!

That is my Uly with the cage on Advrider, I just got it home yesterday, am going for a ride this afternoon, will let you know if it causes any vibration. It did not do so at idle. I know the pucks do a good job, I just like the looks of this thing. And we can't let the GS guys have all the cool stuff!!

How about the name of the company that makes those bars? Or a web site?

I'm very curious about what that nice looking contraption protects that the tank pucks don't. My Electraglide crash bars keep the handle bars and bat-wing fairing off the cement, not to mention the bike off your legs. I know because I inadvertently put mine to the test once.

Hell, I hope this "Dropping my Uly" is not a club I join this season! Is it mostly the black ones being dropped?

Mines BLACK and never been dropped. Over 5 K on it now and just bought the Buell low seat.
Seems the Buell Low all black seats are 6 weeks out? Parts guy says the orange ones are selling better than the black ones. I guess my Black one is going to be more rare than the orange ones.
The Black ones ARE FASTER!

The black Uly's muffler is hung lower.

I rode the Uly with the cage 100 miles yesterday, no perceptible increase in vibration.

the cage came from powersstuntworx.com

I will try to take a front view pic today

I'd be afraid those powerswtuntworx bars would transfer the energy of a crash directly to the engine, instead of letting the frame pucks do their job. No thanks.

With the side bags on I don't thinks even the frame pucks will ever touch the ground until the bags are ground off.

And the bags are waay tough. On a BRAG ride last August local dealer went down on his new Uly (AZ hwy 191 if you know it) at about 35 mph. I was right behind him. Bags did a good job of protecting everything and didn't suffer much at all themselves.
