The Laminar Lip mounts via 3M adhesive pads which have little "knobbies" that lock together with each other. You have to dig them apart with a screwdriver (or the like) before you can "peel" them apart. You have to be careful to get full contact with the adhesive, but the whole setup seems pretty sturdy.

I mounted my LL lower than Aeholton's picture. I'll take a picture soon and post it. I actually tried raising it about 1.5 inches (it ships with extra 3M mounting pads) but put it back down. Note that I'm not tall (5-9).

Concerning earplugs, I ALWAYS wear earplugs, even down to the corner store. Have for decades. Heck, I even wear gaiters (huh?). The issue (for me) is not wind noise, but wind pressure on my torso. The LL is no quieter than the stock windscreen, IMHO. But I don't have to LEAN into the wind nearly as much.

As always, YMMV. Just one user's experience and opinion.

Holy crap, that thing is HUGE!

Can those of you with the laminar lip post a few photos from further back and the side? The detail photos are great, but I'd like to see how it affects the overall look of the whole bike.

Also, has anyone gotten the extended OEM shield yet? Looking like it's coming down to the extended OEM or the LL for me.

Finally, have any of you LL guys tried mounting it directly on the flyscreen without the stock shield? Wondering if this would work.

Thanks!

Thanks Dr. Greg. Appreciate your response. I think I'll stick with my Cee Bailey. I enjoy the quietness of the stock screen on short rides around town, but the high speed benefits of the +2.5 outweigh the quieter ride. I need to start wearing ear plugs anyway.

Mike.... Holey crap! I think they sent you the wrong wind screen. That looks like the canopy from a Bell Jet Ranger Helicopter!!!
Should provide some great winter protection for you easterners.

Rkc00,
Looks OK to me. Let us know where the wind hits you with that 22. How tall are you? How much rattle does it do at idle? How's the noise level? Anything you can think of in your evaluation is worth relaying to us out here in cyberville. Thanks.

The ride home was good. Great wind protection. Noise level was good. There was a little flex in the shield at highway speeds. If this seems to be a problem I have some braces that were for a national cycle shield that I could add to brace it back to the bars. Works fine up to 70 MPH without any side effects to the steering. Once I hit 80 I could feel some forces in the bars from the wind. I had the Corbin seat on and the shield comes up to my nose. I can just see over the shield. With the stock seat I will get another 1/2" higher. Wind noise was good. No wind buffeting around my helmet like the 16" I first had. I could ride all day with this. Here is the deal. I know that it is not the best looking when it is on the bike but it serves its purpose of getting me out of the wind during the winter months. I ride my bike to work almost every day unless there is ice on the ground. So the minor handling issues felt in the bars above 70 MPH is not going to be an issue for me. Most of the time I am in the 55 MPH Range or less.

I am 6'-0" tall with an inseam of 31 1/2".

One last thing is that I would like to thank Cee Bailey's for working with me on this. They could have said we will not build a new form for the taller shield but they filled my needs. Hope that this will work for a few more of you so they can recoup some of the setup costs that were involved with making this.

I took my Uly in today for the 1000 mile service. I ordered the Buell tall screen. I've been quoted 6 - 8 weeks delivery which will give me time to save up because in the UK it is $198.

The only good news is that the dealer is going to replace m rusty exhaust muffler under warranty.

Got my Laminar Lip last nite. Excellent service, next business day shipment, to day transit time.

Installed it about like Aeholton. Super easy.

Road to work today (just to provide a test report :->;). The temp was about 40 and I "tested" it at speeds up to about 80.

Net-net: Completely satisfied.

The wind blast has moved up to my collar bones and there is completely clean air above that (6'3"/34"). I also noticed that there was a lot less pressure on arms and shoulders.

Nice and smooth, and very relaxing.

Highly recommended.

Just did another 280 miles (solo) to Gainesville and back to see my son in the UF Jazz Band, last night. Kept the bike at 80-90mph all the way. Laminar lip performed very well.

It is no bigger than my body. I do not see why it would. I had the bike up to 100 MPH last night with no major shakes in the bike. What I am getting is more air coming up from the frame of the bike due to the dead pocket of air created by the screen. I am going to take a ride with my tank bag installed to see if this will change the direction of the lower air to go to my sides instead of up into my body. Will post back later.

The ride with the tank bag proved to be the ticket. Now all the wind goes around my body. The tank bag I have is not the buell tank bag but is bigger and rectangular in shape. I do not think the buell bag would get the same results.

Brat,
Have not had a chance to ride the Uly this week since LoneXB took it down to Daytona for me last Thursday. Read my posts above for my review. I will be using this with my tank bag installed for the winter. This gives me the protection that I wanted. I will be using the Shorter Cee Bailey's screen (10") that I cut down from the (16") for the rest of the year. I may use the (22") on some road trips. I might get some longer screws and mount both for the trip and take the (22") off when I get to my destination.

Aw crap.

Do the CeeBalieys screens in +2.5 and +4 have the issues with flying off?

I'm basically looking for a bit more coverage. I'm not keen on the lip, I'd like a 2nd screen.

The Laminar Lip is ugly, and you have to replace the dual lock fasteners every now and then, but it's amazingly effective.

If I knew the Buell screen, or the Cee Bailey's was just as effective, I'd go that route, but I suspect that it will increase noise and buffetting.

From what I've read the +2" screens don't cause too much extra noise. Not sure about the +4. But regardless don't want it flying off.

I need something by end of April.

The looks of the Laminar Lip don't bother me as much as the name does. It sounds to me like something that might be associated with gender reassignment surgery.

As a mechanical engineer, I routinely deal with laminar fluid flow, so the name sounds fine to me.

One thing I like about the "LL" is that it preserves the "naked bike" feel---you don't have a large area between you and the environment.

And as for ugly? You worded it wrong...

WRONG: The Laminar Lip is ugly
CORRECT: I don't care for the looks of the Laminar Lip

Learned that from my wife regarding food...

Chad,
YOU will get no buffeting at all from the +2.5 Cee Bailey. You sit on the bike about the same as I do and there is no buffeting at all at my helmet level. The noise increase is very marginal. I doubt that it's much if any different from the L.L.
Not sure if you saw it but I did a mini review you can check out if you want.

I might give the Cee Bailey's s try then. I KNOW the laminar lip works, but it is rather unsightly (IMHO), and you have to futz with replacing the dual lock fasteners every once in awhile (they eventually start to peel off...at least they did on my FJR...but then again...I had it up to 145mph a few times with the lip in place!).

If the Cee Bailey's doesn't work for me, I can go with the Laminar Lip with the stock screen. I could always switch between the two. Use the Lip for touring, and the CB for all other riding. It's not like it's hard to switch screens.

Well...I've got some trips coming up, and I needed to get some more wind protection.

I ordered up a Cee Bailey's +2.5". I'll give it a try and if it doesn't do the trick, I'll order a Laminar Lip for use with the stock screen.

I can swap them as needed. The stock setup is wonderful everywhere but highway/interstate droaning, which I don't do much of, but when I do, it's usually for a good distance. Will be nice to get some of the wind off my chest.

I went to an appointment Tuesday and went up the wrong road (new state) and had to cross country about 100k quickly, the roads were mostly narrow blacktop but some gravel, speeds were 40 to 100 mph, my only concern was that the next day I needed painkillers for my neck, the buffeting at anything near or over legal speeds was bad news!

You there Daves, how much is the CeeBaileys 22" PPPPPPllllllleeeeeeeaaaaaaasssssssssseeeeeee?

According to Google it is:

"street name for a packet of illegal drugs that is sold for ten dollars"

That about sums it up....of course, in this day and age, $10 probably won't get you much smoke.
