I suspect the backorder involves gettign the replacement correct. Could be wrong though.

Yeah, the brittle replacements are available quickly, so I think anything that requires waiting for might very well be an improved version.

I hope...

Mine still hasn't broken off yet. The weather here has not been cooperative with my riding needs. I have only taken it around the block since it's 50 mile oil change.

I am hoping that Buell doesn't just replace it with the same brittle piece of garbage when it lets go.

If they do, it may be worth while to give Buell CS a call and then replace it with the SV 650 bit if it fits. Buell tends to use fairly standard, off the shelf components for their marker lighting so I have been looking to see what others may fit.

Mine broke off about 2 months ago. I had loosened then retightened the bolts holding it about 5 times when I was running some wires up under the rear fender liner so I thought maybe I had caused it.

I installed a brake light modulator with a choice of 2 modes - mode 1 is a a series of three flashes then steady brake light for 3 seconds, then the cycle repeats as long as the brake is engaged. Mode 2 is 5 really quick flashes then steady on. Although they each have a separate lead of course you can only pick one. I replaced the reflector below the plate with an 3" red LED and also added 2 tiny LED blue lamps that I mounted in the 2 bottom holes of the license plate frame. I wired the main brake light to Mode 1, the red and blue LEDs to Mode 2. When I hit the brakes both go off. Those little blue suckers are wicked bright at night.
Anyway, I figured I overtightened the license plate lamp bolts and caused the breakage. Maybe not?

I took a dremel and a piece of clear plexi and made a replacement piece. drilled 2 small hole for the bolts and a bigger one for the lamp. There are 2 smaller screws that hold the shell of the license plate light to the bracket - the attachments for thos screws broke as well and while I waited for the replacement parts to come in I just superglued it together. I've had the new parts for a month but haven't installed them yet - my homemade job has already outlasted the original factory piece.

Just got mine replaced yesterday under warranty. The part had come in last week, but I hadn't had a chance to get to the dealers.

Well, on closer inspection, it a appears to be a completely different part. Hopefully it's a better made unit which will remain in tact

Here is a picture of the new light housing

I still have whats left of the old one, and it is definitely different.

Cheers

Mine finally fell off today. Got home after a ride and found it was missing. Needless to say I was not surprised.

Is there a part number so I can give that to the dealer to make sure the order the right part?

It is.

It will.

Just order regular part number. Not all bikes were effected, the "new and imporved" piece will supercede.

"Hopefully it's a better made unit which will remain in tact "

I've tried remaining "in tact"; it's very challenging, especially on a web forum; am still trying though. joker

There is no hope for me. I am tactless.
