Mb182, thanks for the tip. Ok folks who is going to be the first to try? Hopefully someone who is currently riding! Damn, that looks soooo good on a ORANGE Uly.

Looks cool. $79 is sort of steep for what it is.

I think it would generate the same problems as the Cee Baileys extended shield, who wants to be the next guinea pig?

"I think it would generate the same problems as the Cee Baileys extended shield, who wants to be the next guinea pig?"

It should actually reduce the buffeting and smooth the air flow as it does allow air to flow under the leading edge of the lip as well as over the top.

That being said I am leaning more towards the Buell extended screen at this time.

What I mean is that the screen looks high enough to get enough leverage to unpop the screen a la Cee Bailey's extended standard screen, I'm more inclined to go with Cee Bailey's latest offering on an extended screen where it's bolted!

I agree, the rubber plugs would need replaced with some hardware.

The lip doesn't work like a big barn door screen. There won't be as much pressure on it as there is wind flow underneath the screen. This should take some of the load off of it as the two airstreams "laminate" or come back together at the top edge.

On thing I don't understand here is why a laminar lip would be needed.

Isn't the stock shield designed to create good laminar flow already?

The airflow coming off the stock shield is very smooth, there is just a LOT of airflow. I thought that the purpose of raising the shield above the mounting plate was to create laminar flow.

Why would you need a lip to smooth already smooth airflow?

Just curious.

Why would you need a lip to smooth already smooth airflow?

Only if you want to increase your comfort zone both higher and wider.

The owner is a personal friend for over 15 years and he is extremely meticulous about his products and tests each new design extensively.

Additionally, he seldom makes anything for a new bike until it is requested by a consumer. Ergo, there already is at least one person out there that is enjoying a Laminar Lip on his/her Uly.

Prior to starting Laminar Lip, he was the engineer/designer of similar devices for cars, trucks and SUV's. You have all seen and possibly owned his products.

During that time, he made custom fairings and bodywork for quite a few motorcycles and they were real attention getters in the So Cal market. Then he purchased an ST-1100 and that is when he started designing and making the Laminar Lip for motorcycles. He also did consulting work for other at least one other motorcycle windshield/wind deflector manufacturer prior to making Laminar Lip a full time business.

I know this sounds like "too much info", but all I can say is the things work.

Received the Laminar Lip yesterday. Put it on fairly high up like the picture above. Took the bike on a 50 mile round trip ride up to my business partner's house. The lip worked well at diverting the air. I am 5'10" and with the stock shield I get hit a with air pretty hard from the chest up. With the lip, air wind blast hit me at about the top of my chin bar on my helmet. However, I noticed that there is a lot of flexing in the the stock shield at 60 mph. This has me a little worried so I didn't try riding over 65mph. I am going to try repositioning the lip down about 1 1/2" or so. I will be taking a long ride on Saturday morning. I will let you all know how that works.

Was the air smooth? Airflow from a windscreen hitting your hemlet is usually "dirty air".

That's one thing I love about the Uly. Even though I get LOTS of wind on it....it's good clean wind. No buffetting.

OK...second impression. I love this thing. I repositioned the laminar lip down about 2 inches. It is absolutely perfect now. Good clean air from the neck up and plenty of chest protection. We had a little cool front come through today and there is a decent breeze out of the north. I took it on a little 16 mile (8 miles north into the wind) test trip and noticed that the shape and width of it also clears the wind from my upper arms and shoulders. This thing was worth every penny! I have a fun 150 mile ride planned for Saturday morning and can't wait to give it a full test.

Wouldn't that laminarlip thingybob be just as easily made to replace the oem shield??? Why have they made it to add to instead of completely replace??

Probably because the gap between the windshield and lip is critical to airflow.

Correct....The Laminar Lip not only redirects the air flow over your screen, it smooths it as well. Adding a taller screen will only increase the low pressure area behind it causing buffeting.

Next time you take her out put your hand behind the screen where the secondary airflow comes out. Not that it maters but I'm curious as to how much air really gets under there. You would think the stock shield as well as the +2.5" Cee-Bailey would also have the laminar inducing air flow, but I can't feel any flow at all coming from there (yes I took my glove off ).

Just kidding since a Buell is a Buell is a Buell in a sense, and that is a great looking ride you've got!

Bosh - put my hand behind the screen above the opening between the two and there is a stream of air pushing up. Plenty strong enough to feel with a glove on.

Did 167 miles today and the laminar lip worked like a charm. Even hit some light rain and it kept my chest area pretty dry. It was very gusty today and I don't have a stiff, tired neck from fighting the wind. This thing is the best!

Hmmm.... might have to get one of those. I'm [very] happy with the Cee-Bailey's level of protection and lack of buffeting but it's a little nosier than the stock shield. The profile of the Laminar lip looks almost the same as the Cee +2.5" so I'd expect the protection area is about the same. The laminar may be quieter though because of the secondary air flow. How would you say the noise level is, compared to the stock shield?

I think it's quieter than the stock by itself. However, I wear an AGV Longway (modular) helmet. It's a bit noisier than a normal full face, so I usually wear earplugs.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.....

Chad buddy just wait a while for the Buell extended windscreen. I am on hold for that. But hey we aren't riding yet because we live in the great white north. I think Buell needs to offer the windshield and seat as a no cost option when you buy the Uly. I can't see why that would be an issue for them. They may sell a few less seats and windscreens but what is the cost of a happy customer.

The Buell screen is 4" taller if my understanding is correct. I ordered a 2.5" taller screen. I'm not looking to move the wind up any higher than necessary. I just want to move it up on my chest a bit. As it is, it's hitting me right at my sternum. If I could move it up to mid chest, then that would be a major improvement while still keeping my shoulders and helmet in clean air.
