this place has one strange search engine. i tried to find the answer i swear. well, based on my horrid fuel mileage and glowing red headers and difficult hot starting i'm gonna go out on a limb and say i need to advance the timing. anybody have the lowdown? |

Sounds like a fuel problem. Too much. Or the valve in the exhaust is acting up. You need to take it to the dealer before it gets overheated. I have seen red pipes before and at night in the blackness that is not too uncommon. But if your fuel economy is poor I would get it looked at ASAP. |

thanks gowindward, that is one nice write-up!! thanks thunderbox. i've been having the check engine light come on at start up. i kill it and restart to give the exhaust valve another chance and the light stays out. i know that red headers=retarded timing,so i'm going to start with the timing. my bike will never see a dealer for maint,if it throws a rod i'll take it in,otherwise i'll do all the maint. don't worry i won't ride it until things have been resolved. i'm going to get the software and cable...i just can't right now, catching up after Christmas, new bike, big trip next week on the klr, cali tags on the wifes car, urgh. |
