Okay, I've got my new Buell Low Seat in hand. Attempted to put it on the bike yesterday. I could not remove the forward mounting bolt for the ECU per the instructions. The nut (a locknut?) appears to be in a plastic nutwell and must have been overtightened at the factory. So, it will not come loose and I cannot get a wrench or tool on it due to the plastic nutwell and limited access (it's very tight in there). YES, I am very frustrated at this point. Anyone know of a method to get this SOB off? No, I don't want to ride 60 miles to my nearest dealership and have them curse and swear at it when I can do that at home. Regards, Jim in Santa Barbara |

Jim, I jammed a screwdriver with the biggest blade I could find against the nut. It's a PIA. Eor has a picture on his seat thread showing that he was able to get a wrench on it. Like you, I just couldn't get the wrench to bite. Hang in there. You will be triumphant! |

Just get a pair of these and forget the low seat.

Did you try coming at it from underneath with an open end wrench held vertically? That's how I got mine off. Fortunately it doesn't take allot of torque to keep it from turning, as you certainly don't get a good grip on the nut with the wrench in that orientation. When you put the spacer on , watch to see that it doesn't start deforming as you tighten it down. I was using a torque wrench but the base of the spacer began to deform before the wrench clicked over at the recommended torque setting. |

Brotherbuell, tried that with 4 different screwdrivers. No joy. Chad, looks like you've been browsing the Ducati catalogue again. Eor, that's an orientation I haven't tried. I'll give it a go tonight, thanks. Another option might be to use some epoxy / Qwik Steel / whatever and glue the existing nut in place and allow it to cure for a day. Regards, Jim in SB |

Eor, it worked with a little persuasion. Thanks! The Buell Low Seat didn't just pop on like the stocker, either. That took some persuasion as well. Hopefully it will adjust to the bike over time so getting it on/off will be easier. Thanks again. Jim in Santa Barbara |

Jim_sb did the low make much of a difference, is it also narrower. |

I never got that part on under my low seat. Will the bike grenade without it? |

Hello Clayman, I've only had a short 15 mile test ride (tonight), but: 1. I can now wear my Sidi boots once again (they don't articulate downward as much as my work boots - so they were not good with the stock seat). 2. The stock seat is the most comfortable I've ever ridden - I can't even recall a close second... The Low seat does not offer that immediately comfortable feeling - but may over time as it is broken in. We shall see. 3. The Low seat lets you sit down in the bike more as did my former S2. Very nice. I always liked that about the S2. 4. It feels slightly narrower when you're reaching for the pavement. Not really noticeable when riding. Overall it is a modest improvement over the stock unit (in terms of height). I do think the bike could easily forego an inch of suspension (front and rear) if someone really wanted to get the bike a bit lower. As for the spacer block; I presume it is there to protect the ECU; I don't know if it's critical or not. Using Eor's trick I was able to get it done. Regards, Jim in Santa Barbara |

i am 6-2 but i like the feeling of being siting more in the bike. i also like to touch the ground and have my knees slightly bent, so i hope this will do it. i phoned my deeler today and they have 2 in stock. i will be getting it on the weekend. And i think possibly i will get the race ecm and filter. |
