Any thoughts on using the CityX rear shock on the Uly. Low Seat is great once bike is underway, however, old Amry injury make dismounting difficult. Any thoughts? |

The chopper guys use air shocks to raise and lower the bike on demand. That might be an interesting approach. |

I usually stand on the left peg and sling a leg over. Is that the mount/dismount you are having trouble with, or do you sling the leg with one foot on the ground? Or both? |

Dismount mostly. Right leg does is not as flexible as it once was. Have trouble clearing the seat/grab handle. Normally try to get the left leg on the ground with the front wheel turned against the steering stop to the right, lowering the bike a bit. Major concern is dropping the bike. Any help is appreciated. |

12Scg suspension parts should be somewhat compatible. If you are not too big of a guy, you might just try dismounting by standing on the left peg. That might offer some relief until you can get the suspension modified. |

If you put a standard or "low" rear shock on the rear I believe the wheel will contact the underside of the seat support on hard bumps. During the on-line chat session with Buell engineers last year, someone asked if an XB12X rear could be put on an XB12Ss (presumably so they could use Uly hard bags). benandcindy: Is the tail section and windscreen adaptable to the 12S ? John: No, they are not directly adaptable to the 12S (or 12Ss either). Due to the long travel suspension on Ulysses, we've moved some of the components in the tail around to give as much trunk space as possible. If you put the Ulysses tail components on a Lightning, the rear tire will end up hitting some of those components on hard bumps. Based on this, I'd say if you put a standard (or worse yet, "low") XB12S shock on the rear of your Uly, you'll have the same problem. |

Whodom: Thanks for the input. One option (we think) is to remove the rear grab handle back support setup and have a seat contoured to lower the rear portion of the seat. The Buell low seat allows us to get our feet on the ground when the bike is stopped at a light, however, getting the right leg to "swing" over the rear seat/grab handle/back rest setup is problematic. If there is solid footing for the left foot, turing the handle bars to the extreme right, allows the bike to be a bit lower in the rear. This makes it a bit easier to get the right leg "over" the stuff, but not a lot. In looking at the Touratach site earlier this evening, we noticed that they have a new rear rack, that seems to be used in place of the OEM Buell piece, it looks as though the factory backreat/rack and grab handle assembly have been removed. Will investigate the option of removing that assembly in the next week or so. Sorry for the long post. Thanks |

Lowflyer: Thanks for the idea. Silly question, do you set the bike on the side stand and then dismount? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks again ride Safe |

Buelldualsport, Yes, I put the sidestand down, turn the wheel to the left, and stand on the left peg while holding the bars. Swinging the right leg over while keeping your weight somewhat centered will allow you a less drastic leg-swing. The sidestand will hold your weight. This is generally what I do for mounting and dismounting. Thankfully, I don't have any physical limitations, I just use this technique because it is easier and I find that it is more secure since, at 5'10", I am on my toes sitting in the seat. It may help until you can mod your suspension and/or tail section. Whatever you do, please post some pictures. Good luck. |

Thanks, it looks like they've removed the entire "side grab handles and triple tail thingy" and used the bolt holes! I need to fit some sort of parcel rack to stop my soft bag from hanging over the tail light but I want to keep the beaver tail! |
