After riding a couple of days ago for about a 1/2 an hour I pulled into the garage and shut the ULY down and after the fan shut off I bent down to check the swing arm oil tank dip stick level. The garage is quiet and I could here this boiling type sound emanating from the swing arm area. It went on and on and I couldn't figure out what it was or where exactly it was coming from. No, it was not a leak in the back tire. It seemed to be coming from the swing arm tank or bottom area of the mono shock. It was not louder with the dip stick in or out. What the heck?? Can you guys check yours after a ride and tell me if you here this gurgling or bubbling noise?

This phenomena gets reported fairly often on here with all Buells. I've heard it on my bike (a 2000 S3) on more than one occasion.

The general consensus here seems to be the sound is moisture boiling off in the transmission/primary. The theory is if you take short rides particularly in cold/humid weather, moisture condenses in the transmission lube and then gets boiled off when you ride the bike hard.

I'm not quite 100% convinced on this theory, but at any rate I don't think anyone has ever reported the noise leading to a problem.

I assumed it was gas boiling off and exiting the fuel vent hose which terminates very near the dipstick.

I always fill up after a ride and the bubbling sound is usually accompanied by gas fumes...I always associated the two.

Mine is making a noise near the rear cylinder fan and has been doing so since I replaced the servo for the exhaust. The dealer has ordered a new fan as a 'just in case' tactic, but it has not been replaced yet. It almost sounds like a resetting servo or something like that.
