Boxing day ride, Muell afloat, ferry near Melbourne Australia, I'm wearing a jumper to keep the sun off, not 'cause it's cold!

Brat, is that the ferry to Taz? I went to the 8th Australian HOG Rally in Launceston, Tasmania with my two friends from northern N.S.W., back in '97. I even won the Long Distance Rider award - a case of Boags. That was a great trip; met lots of interesting people. Some day I'll be back.

Na mate, but been on there with another bike, that's a 200 km trip, this one is across the bottom of Victoria, the opening of Port Phillip Bay, about 45 minutes! Boags is a great drop, worth the trip! : )

The bags that were GUARANTEED to be here no later than today - the same bags that were to be overnighted on Friday - are not here.

My wife ran a small business before we relocated. I usually try to support the local merchants and not the "big-box stores". With motorcycles and my scuba gear I often choose to pay more and buy from my local shop rather than the internet. I will have no hesitation now in buying all my motorcycle parts and accessories some place else

Well after letting the bags "AGE" at my dealership for two month I finally picked them up! NICE BAGS! They had a new ORANGE Uly sitting on the show room floor with the full set of bags installed. If anyone near Western Ohio is interested, the dealer is Gover H-D and Buell in Piqua, Ohio. Nice folks and dealership, I recommend them!

I'm going to the dealer in the AM for the bag install, then for a couple of hundred mile ride with some co-workers. Everything I've read / heard so far has been a resounding thumbs-up. I'll give my two cents in a couple of days, can't wait!

Hey Brat, where is your top case?

im very very jealous. dang. : (

anyways, the dealer here in minnesota said an 6-8 week wait time on the bags, as they dont have them in stock.

heres a silly question. how does one get his, or her, leg over the bike with bags on? i have never ridden with permanent luggage before.

thanks,
chris

With the kick stand down, put your left foot on the peg and then mount like a horse.

the kickstand will support that much weight? i was thinking the same thing but the first time the great pumpkin goes down CANT be because i mounted the fine steed and the kickstand broke.

if this is a common method i shall heed your advice. thanks.

Midnightrider,
Next time you need something call me. I usually have stuff in stock and I can save you some $$.

I sold my last set of bags yesterday with a ULY but I have more on order and I don't think it will take 6-8 weeks to get them.

I received my side bags but not the trunk, so I canceled the trunk. I mounted the side bags and I don't like the size. I removed them promptly and they are going on ebay or some where for sale. I think they are way to big.

this might sound like an odd question, but how big are the bags for the uly? i purchased a set at a serious discount when i purchased by uly, so i made the deal without ever seeing them in person. big or not, i reckon ill use em...or make a couple bucks selling them on ebay and getting a life insurance policy.

the buell website has nice pictures but i was looking for specs such as volume and carrying weight. where does a guy find such information as google searches lead me back to the buell website.

Daves -
I absolutely will call on you when I need something in the future. As time goes on I get more details - Last Friday when the damaged bags were unpacked at the dealer, the Parts Manager got on the phone with the vendor who (allegedly) told the parts guy that they were fully stocked and would send them out immediately. Then we were told they would be here Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. Today's Friday - no bags and no explanation. Had a "chat" with the parts department yesterday voicing my displeasure. I had to tell them that I couldn't in good conscience tell even tell them that unless they got the bags NOW I wouldn't ever bring my business there. I said there was probably nothing they could do to ever get my business again.

Fatal mistake I made was installing the hardware. Now I can't really even cancel the order.

Most frustrating thing for me is not trusting my instincts - I knew I was going to get boned and I did. Twice (so far).

Enough whining from me - talk to you soon. BTW - what have you got in the way of auxillary driving lights. No chrome, thanks

Don

All three pieces, sidebags and top case will swallow a full size helmet.

Hey Snub, I've got a soft bag that slots straight on the beaver tail, Hold as much as the top case, can have stuff hanging out the top of it and doubles as a back pack! Also keeps the weight more foreward than the top case so I'm happy! PS the side bags hold about 45 Litres, I can fit two helmets and a leather coat in 1 easy!

Happy New Year all! : )

Happy New Year to all.

I got my bags on Friday (12/30) and then went for a nice (and COLD) ride(218.0 miles total). The side bags were empty but i had my camera and a back pack in the top case. So far the bags are fantastic! They could hold a small child and are very unobtrusive. There was no effect on the handling nor was there any added noise.

Grimace, according to the stickers inside, the side bags have a limit of 15lbs and the top case is 11lbs. They all come off and go back on easily.

There may be a slight issue of foot room with the passenger pegs but the wife was working so no test data on that.

What's a reasonable wait? When do I start yelling at a dealer for dropping the ball? (Something I'm beginning to suspect) Is there a longer wait for the low seat than the bags?
I go on a ride every New Year's Day regardless of the weather, and with the snow on the roads this morning, I sure wish the seat had come in.

Supply is rapidly catching up to demand. The wait for bags should be erased soon. Low seats are in stock at a number of dealers.

I wouldn't be sitting around waiting on heated grips and more will be revealed about the Quest GPS at the upcoming meeting in Dallas.

Hi Clayman, the seat is a custom job on the high seat I had done locally, it's also minus the non-slip and the gel. I'm happy with it and cheaper than the options you mentioned, also easier to clean than the standard finish!

The saga continues. If you’ve joined us late, the bags that took 10 weeks to arrive finally did arrive Dec 23rd. One saddlebag was broken so they were both returned. A dealership employee went away then returned –stating he called the warehouse- they were in stock- they would be overnight shipped to arrive no later than Dec 26. Made a few follow up calls – no bags. Called today and spoke with the parts manager, who said-no- still takes 30 days to get bags, we had a set for stock on order to arrive now and had planned to give you those, replace stock when the replacement for yours come in. Denies another employee called the warehouse. Denies anyone could overnight them, pretty much refuted all the info we had been given. Said he would call Harley and get us an answer. By the end of the business day – no answer. Just before the end of the day I called the dealership and asked to speak to the owner/manager. “Not here”. Asked to speak to whoever was in charge. No answer. So I asked right now, who is in charge? Reply was “I can’t say”. Asked for my salesman as I he always seemed to be honest. He has taken another position – left the dealership.

Called Buell, was referred to customer service, who took my complaint. I made a point of telling him the sales side was great, the service dept spectacular – but this experience with the parts dept was unacceptable. He stated he will call the dealer and make an inquiry as to just what is going on.

My question now is do I need to start shopping for a new dealer to get service? Is it like complaining that your meal is cold in a restaurant – the waiter takes it back and then spits in it (or worse) when its out of your sight.

For what it's worth, I bought my ULY on Nov. 9th.
Ordered the side bags at the same time.
Dinked around with the dealer/salesman for the next couple weeks.
They knew we were trailering south, to get some riding in (keep your trailering comments to yerself, we live in Michigan) :-)
Anyway, short story, I checked last Thursday, still no bags. Same lame answer "vendor direct, don't know when they'll be in".
Then, outta the blue, the parts guy say's "I see here, another dealer has them in stock, want me to get those?"
Well, :"He** yes"! say's I. The bags were in the next day.
They were shipped from Racine, WI.
I guess I just don't understand the ordereing process.
I'll post about the install later.
Peace
Milo

Clayman, It's at least 2", the upholsterer just cut it back to what he thought was a fair thing! Done quite a few 350 to 400 mile days on it with good results, my Girlfriend loves it accept if I brake hard and she slides down the slope and joins me! : )

I have a question about the top box. I ordered my saddlebag and top box kit from Chicago Harley (20% discount) and received the box with the saddle bags only. They made a mistake and are sending the top box out today. My question is should I go ahead and install the saddle bags by themselves, or wait for the top box? Do they share mounting points at all? Looking to avoid any rework.

Thanks
Jim
