I just finished putting my Uly back together after
a recent project and left off the air scoop and that other worthless black plastic trim piece from the right side of the frame. I was thinking having that junk out of the way would have a beneficial effect in getting more air flow past the cylinder cooling fins. Does the left side air scoop really help divert air to the rear cylinder and improve cooling or is it just
for looks? If it is such a great idea how come there isn't one on the right side? Does anyone have any real data or evidence that the scoop is
helpful or is it extra plastic weight that is just going to get damaged sometime when the bike falls over on top of it?

I do not believe Buell Engineering Team would put anything on just for looks. ... The left side scoop directs cool air to the rear cylinder, Without it that air will have to pass across the hot front cylinder??? It reminds me of something I did back when the earth was flat in 1965. I was rebuilding my first VW engine and after I had installed the heads I had these two small inch by inch pieces of sheet metal left over. They were the baffles between the cylinders and I left them off, because I would have to had removed the heads to install them. Well to make a long story shorter, the engine lasted about five miles before it over heated and I got to do it all over again. ... BTW American Sport Bike sells a cool right side scoop that all but eliminates the fan coming on most of the time. ... But That's Just My Opinion. ... Terry
