Tell me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the preventative fix for that be removing the metal plate that apparently is just for holding the incoming and outgoing wires in place. Then put more insulated protection around the cables and then reinstall the plate after bending in some clearance for the added insulation. This would eliminate the plate from vibrating through and shorting out the hot cable.

I bent the plate where the wire was near the edge, then polished it smooth.

Went by the dealership today...

They got the voltage regulator in and installed, checked everything out and was ok. Went to install bulbs and the bulbs they ordered in with the voltage regulator (they do not keep H7 bulbs in stock..."sir, if more people rode Buells, maybe we would keep some parts in stock for them"...quote from service guy) were broken, ordered more.

If they had called me to tell me this, I would have picked the damn bulbs up myself just to get my bike back. As it is, I have to go back to work this weekend so I will have to check on it next week, I say "I will have to check" because they still have'nt called me yet to tell me anything!

Might be time to call Buell Customer Service?

That sort of customer service can only be described as pathetic. I'd definitely be travelling the extra 2 hours.
I would also be concerned about the expertise (lol) of the workshop.

I'd have gone to the auto parts store, bought bulbs, and come back to the dealership with them. Silly that they have to order bulbs. They seems like standard old bulbs to me.

Chad,
That's exactly what Uselyssxb12x would have done if they'd simply called him. Why didn't the dealer send an apprentice out to get the bulbs? Because they don't care.

That's a real shame.

I seldom ever take my bikes to the shop, so I guess I don't realize how bad it can be. I simply don't trust anyone working on my bike. It's my life, and I want to make sure it's done right and by the book.

A friend of mine had a bad crash because the dealer overtorqued the rear sprocket bolts on his Ducati and it cracked the wheel which later shattered. That's scary!

As much as I love my Ulysses, I crenge at the thought of having to take it to either of the shops near me becuase of the horror stories I've heard about how badly Buell owners are treated.

I know there are some good shops out there, Dave's being one of them (BTW...I got my parts. Thanks Dave!!), but it's hard to determine the good from the bad unless you've got some experience with a particular shop. And I'm sure some people have bad experiences at good shops and vice versa.

Please document this, dates, what you did what they did, etc. Send it to To Buell customer service. Do the Court thing, be polite and very detailed.

Buell wants to know these things, they have a very big hammer and are not afraid to use it.

Chad...

I do all my own work also, but this is a warranty related issue. This is also the first m/c I have ever had that needed to have anything done under warranty.

Davegess...

I do not know what the "Court thing is". I have been polite, I generally do not lose my cool over these type of things (much to my wife's dismay)...but my fuse is getting shorter.

Uly OUT of the shop!

They finally got around to replacing the headlight bulb late yesterday (my bulb...the one they ordered to replace the others that they ordered still had'nt come in).

They could'nt let me have a copy of the paperwork until they get the bulbs in because they are charged to this bike.(accounting thing)

I will pick up the paperwork in a couple of days when I am off again. Need to get the names of service writer, tech, service manager. I am not sure if I will call Buell customer service or not...What does everybody here think I should do?

Uselyss-

PLEASE contact Buell and describe your support experience to them. You don't need to scream and yell, but simply and clearly explain exactly what happened, and that you honestly expected more competent service than you recieved. Even better than a phone call, write a letter to Buell, and CC HD corporate and the dealership. That way you've created a paper trail that can be referenced the next time someone has a similar issue.

From your description, I would think even big daddy HD would be embarassed by how things went.

By communicating the poor experience back to Buell, you have the opportunity to play an active roll in driving the company forward, and creating a benefit for all your fellow 3%ers (which could eventually make us 5%ers +!)

Eglider97...

This was a warranty issue...I should'nt have to fix it myself...I do work on all my own bikes for the routine stuff.

Daves...

About 3.5hrs

Smacnamara...

This is what I had in mind...(what you said above)

I just want to echo what S mcnamara said. A letter can work wonders (I know from experience). Buell and H-D can't fix a problem that they don't know about. Put it in writing, and you'll be helping Buell as well as other future customers. Such a basic and easily diagnosed problem should have been attended to and repaired in hours, not weeks. If you let it slide, some poor sucker may get stuck even longer without his bike.

OK...letter will go out Monday to Buell Customer Service as per the owner's manual. Never had to or felt compelled to do this before, have mixed feelings, I am not a complainer.

I did'nt rant and rave, just let Buell know what happened (timeline, etc.)

I doubt anything comes from it, but hope it helps the dealership, customers, and Buell.

When my girlfriend takes her BMW to the shop she is treated like visiting royalty. They give her a loaner bike to ride and call her on the cell when hers is done with service. When I go to a HD dealership and they find out I have a Buell the treatment I get is pathetic, disgraceful and unacceptable. Buell would be better off moving into the Toyota dealership network than stay where they are.

Javadog,
And I'll wager they bill as if she is from royalty.
