After my plugged rear tyre blew out today on a local ride, I decided it wasn't in my best interest to try and risk it any further, instead, I'd just go ahead and replace it.

So I call Glendale HD/Buell, but they're closed 'till 2nd Jan. I then call my local HD/Buell dealer in Harbor City, they're open, but don't have any of the 616's in stock. The parts guys does a search on line, and comes back on the phone to tell me that the closest dealer with a tyre in stock is in San Diego, and they if I wanted my local guys to get me the tyre, it would be a 7-10 day wait as it would need to be ordered from WI.

Well. I guess it’s a good thing this wasn’t an emergency.

So I start hunting around online. I found that Ron Ayres stocks the D616 rear - $113.28 shipped – and it’s scheduled to be here early next week.

I would have considered an alternative tyre, but I’m planning to go to Death Valley, 27-30 Jan, with the Village Idiots – looking forward to taking the Uly off road…

Ron Ayres is from here. They were my service dealer for my Honda and I buy most of my gear from them. Man, if our local Buell dealers were at that level! Thanks man, now I just have to go 15 miles up the road to get tires.

Jack,
Please tell me you weren't still riding around on that plug I put in your tire at the IMS show..

I felt lucky I was able to get it to hold air the way that one went in. Normally they go in easier, but your hole was so small that I had a hard time getting that plug in intact. I've bought a new plugging kit for the road that should make future road repairs more reliable.

Good luck with your tire quest.

Al

Al,
I too had bought a plug kit (Stop & Go Pocket Plugger), and swapped out the plug you originally put in, with hopes of fending off the inevitable…

This time, I got stranded in seedy part of downtown LA – I had my patch kit, but no air. Lucky for me, Heretic (Nick), who I was supposed to ride with this morning, wasn’t too far away with a portable compressor – which kinda got me thinking; do we happen to have a support registry set up anywhere – you know, for fellow Buell riders who get stuck? Sort of like what BMWNA does with their annual handbook. I’d be more than happy to offer my contact details, should anybody break down near by and need assistance

Anyway, the new tyre is on the way – which reminds me, better go check what Buell uses for wheel weights…
