Just a thought. How about taking a couple of inches of height out of that muffler. Then the bike can be dropped a couple of inches and still maintain the clearance. I'm 6'1/2" barefoot but I'd rather be able to flat foot this ULY. Also something that I've not read anywhere is that when I do a super low speed left hand turn (parking lot) the wires that are routed out of the triple clamp to under the frame/tank on the left side end up pushing back on the handlebars a bit. I only mention this because the steering lock is limited to begin with without wires impeding it a bit more. It will be interesting to see what improvement will be on the 2007 ULY.

Elec,

I wonder if your wires are routed properly. Mine goes lock to lock smoothly and with no wire interference at all.

I can't wait to see what the '07 will be like. I think it will be exceedingly hard to improve on this bike. That is, without slipping to one side or the other of the fat line that it rides on between street/track, touring, and dirt/dual sport. What we have is a bike that reasonably satisfies all motorcycling wants, but does not completely satisfy any one of them. It's like having one of each of the bite-sized versions of your favorite candy bars.

I agree. While I'd like a smoother engine at idle so my vision isn't blurred when I'm stopped, I don't think I'd change a whole lot at this point.

That's one of the things that initially made me like the Uly so much. The shaking sputtering V-twin that sounds like it is running by a loose coincidence of spark, fuel/air, and rotation is like my Uly's personality. Without it, I am afraid it would be like having a wife that agreed with everything I say or do. It may sound good, but what fun is that?

It's "Erik", not "Eric." To the hall of shame with you! ;)

Just my thoughts.
I noticed the Ulysses is a separate line, i.e. not under the Lightning or Firebolt headers. I predict great things to come! No I have no inside info, but why give the XB12X it's own heading if additional variations are not in the works? A more touring oriented model and a more dirt oriented model wouldn't be hard as the base platform is solid!

I agree with 2hogs. I don't think it would be much of a stretch to go to either extreme with the current platform.

I like the idle rumble too, I like it even better that it smooths out just off idle.

I think the two changes I'm going to make (sometime) will be mirrors that stick out a little farther, don't get me wrong, I like my elbows but I would like to see what's behind me without having to tuck my arms in. and a little more sound out of the muffler. Just a little, I don't want to off my neighbors...too much.

All in all, this is a great bike right out of the box. A+ to Erik and the gang!

Yep...I'll second the mirrors. I put bar enders on my Ducati, but the handguards on the Uly prevent that.

Haven't found a good solution to the mirror issue.

If the ULY sells well enough do you suppose Erik would consider a Dual Sport Blast?

The blast is too heavy for dual-purpose work.

I would think that the next logical step would be a full-on tourer with no dirt abilities.

Perhaps they will retry the police bike thing?

A 19" front would one of my wants. That way I could spoon up some TKC-80s and take the Jimmy Lewis class.

The other, an honest 250mile range. Coldfoot to Deadhorse is a long way.

Cheers
