It does have a couple advantages that I can see: It is narrower, by a couple inches. They are toploaders, and strength-wise should take a hit much better than the clamshell style. YOU CAN CLOSE AND LATCH THEM WITHOUT LOCKING THEM! They give me a flat area to attach more stuff too. Cheers Brett | ||

Any clearance problems with the passenger pegs folding back? My rear pegs rub when folding back even with the Buell issue cases. | ||

2hogs, The general consensus is that top-loaders can take a hit much better than the Buell offerings. That and the fact that they can be closed and latched without being locked (like your FLTR bags) is a bonus that will probably keep these bags on my bike for a while. For H&B stuff, its usually easier to check them out on www.twistedthrottle.com as the H&B website can be rough to navigate at times. The other nice thing is that I can just order the H&B structure for my KTM LC4 and now I've got two sets of bags to go on it as well. Cheers Brett | ||

I'm hoping someone will come up with a hard box that will mount to the triple tail. Similar to the tail box Jesse makes.  I had one on my GS and it was attractive and offered great utility. Kept me from having to take a tankbag as much. It combined with a tankbag was enough to pack everything I needed for an overnighter. | ||

Okay, I do like the Zega aluminum bags from Touratech. I don't care how they look either since I only ever mount luggage for long trips. Everyday riding around town loaded with bags and boxes all over the bike seems a bit poserly to me anyway.  Although, I wonder if I could sell advertising space on the sides. Hmmm?? I think if you completed the set with the same style tailbag it would look killer. Then again, I've always been a sucker for BMW's Adventure models. Color matching the engine cases would add the final touch. Soloyosh, What all did you have to do to get those monsters to fit-up and mount securely to your Uly? | ||

Blake, They mount in the same manner as the Buell bags. Same mounts different bags. I plan on giving them a good coating of bedliner type paint in black to match the bike a little better. As far as cosmetics, I have washed my bike once, before a cruise night. I found that since I ride dirt roads to and from work, washing is just an exercise in futility. So if it looks dirty, ratty etc. or the cargo configuration isn't aesthetically pleasing to everyone, I feel sorry for you, until I start my bike and ride off. If I am a poser for riding with the bags on there all the time, so be it. This bike replaced a car, and as such I have to occasionally carry stuff on it that would normally occupy the trunk of my old car (poser stuff like food, diapers, beer, etc.). Having the bags on it all the time makes it that much easier than the bungee alternative. Cheers Brett | ||

Sorry Brett. I didn't mean to imply that everyone is poserly for having bags on all the time. I meant that for me it would be poserly. I work most of the time. When I am not working, I am driving my kids to some event in the minivan. I bought my Uly mostly for commuting and weekend riding. The most luggage I ever need regularly is a notebook computer case. Anything that won't fit in there goes on top of it under the cargo net bungee. My wife does all of the shopping, but if I need to haul stuff, I use my pickup. If I ever do buy hard bags, they will likely hang in the garage 98% of the time. I am not worried about aesthetics either. I have washed my Uly all of twice in 2300 miles. That said, I do like to yank chains with PhotoShop. The 'cooler bags' picture was not meant as an insult. It was just meant for fun.  | ||

Brett, you will have to excuse some of the fellows on the board. It's December and they are suffering from PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome) and are meaner than a gut shot grizzly bear until the spring thaw. It looks like you are still riding and they just can not stand it! | ||

I just scoped the HB offerings and found that despite their portly looks the Gobis are actually 5 liters SMALLER than the Buell bags. That really surprised me. OK so they load up top and they'll survive a crash better. I got all three bags with mounts for less than just the 2 Gobis cost. Can you still put a full face helmet in those puppies? I think I'll just deal with the side opens and try not to crash it. This is only my 2 cents but fugly just got a lot more expensive. Steve | ||

Since there seems to be a slight bit more tolerance now for shapes other than the Buell bags I suggest the Happy-Trails luggage as an alternative. The first set shown here were natural aluminum but you can order them powder coated as you wish. The new hinge design is a big plus in my opinion. They have worked very well for me on a number of trips in various parts of the world. ref | ||

I like those aluminum cases. Only wish they made alu topcases with the capacity of the Journey 50 topcase --> 48L (HB website). The alu 45 sidecases (43L) and a big alu top and I'd be all set for a 2 week camping trip! Now I just wonder if the topcase mounting brackets and hardware are available without the sidecase brackets (already have Buell side cases) Cheers | ||

I bought my off a gentleman on Advrider. $400 shipped. The Gobis are double walled which accounts for their smaller capacity. You cannot fit a helmet in the Gobi side cases. I'll shoot some comparison pictures tonight. They are narrower but hang lower than Buell's Journey bags. Cheers Brett | ||
