I finally got my renthal medium bars installed and am very happy with the look and feel of them. However, I can't seem to figure out what to do about end caps.

I bought another set of the factory Uly caps that work with the hand guards but the inner diameter of the renthal bars is much smaller than the factory bars. So much so that it doesn't appear that the factory end caps will fit even if you were to trim the crushable part.

So does anyone have a suggestion on end caps I can use? I was removing the hand guards anyway - although I would have liked to be able to keep the end caps for easily reinstalling them - so that's not a great loss.

Also I'd like to stick with the stock mirrors and I noticed all the renthal bar pictures had the bar end mirrors on them.

My only other comment on the bar installation (aside from what a PITA it was to get the left hand grip off) was that I wasn't expecting to have to drill the bar holes for the switch gear, but I think I did alright : )

I've got some low bars on order, supposed to be here tomorrow. Chadhargis also mentioned what a pain it was getting the left grip off. I want to just swap over all the stock parts to the low bars-am I going to have to destroy the left grip to get it off, or will it be salvagable?

Try heating it up as hot as possible without melting it and this will hopefully allow you to yank and twist it off. Let us know if it works.

I got it off and reused, but as soon as I was done I went ahead and ordered a new hand grip.

It appears as though mine was glued but only along a couple of line running parallel to the bar.

I found that mine was a little lose at both ends and if you just twisted it back and forth a bit it would loosen up some. Then I sprayed some WD-40 down in each end and kept working it. Finally, I has to take a long, thin screwdriver to pry where it was still glued to the bar.

It took me over an hour to get it off but I was determined to get the original grip back on so I could go riding.

Now what to do about the end caps...

Homer....Did the Renthal bars come with cap? If so then just cut the nipple off the end of the Uly stock caps that hold the guards and run a screw through the end to hold it on. I have some Azonic CR lows on my XB9s and wanted to install hand guards for the winter. I made a set of hand guards and "Modded" the end caps as described. I was even able to still use my bar end mirror.

What did you make the handguards out of? Looks like CF. What kind of mirrors?

Dmcutter....They are CF and I got the mirror at www.REI.com Cat Eye Racing Mirror for a mountain bike. $7.99 I think.

I molded the OEM guards and made my own.

E-glider- I tried heating them up with my wife's blow dryer. Might have helped a little since the garage was about 35 degrees, but it still took the better part of an hour, used the old flat bladed screwdriver underneath to break it loose. Another issue- the cables and wires all seem much too long with the lower bars-can I pull some slack up into the space behind the fairing? I'm worried about kinking the throttle cables.

I'll see what I can figure out on the end caps... I don't run the hand guards myself, and have bard end mirrors instead, so it's not something I knew about.

Don't know if this will help, but I boogered up the end caps on my Kawasaki Connie when replacing the grips. Went to either True Value or Home Depot and found some plugs that are used to fill holes in desks for routing computer cables. Found a size that was close, trimmed the little rubber barbs and they work like a charm. Cheap too.

Dmcutter - same here on the cables, although feeding some of the slack through the front fairing and in the bike seemed to cure that pretty easy.

The brake cable was a bit more work though since they don't really bend much. I ended up reorienting the cable holder up under the front fairing so that the cable would run right to left and then down and back. I just realized that the previous sentence probably makes no sense to anyone - I'll post pictures when I can.

I finished the install tonight; would have been easier if my drill bits were sharp enough to drill aluminum...the brake line does look a bit awkward, will look at relocating. I haven't figured out the end caps yet, but it seems like someone with a machine shop (so happens my wife's boss' husband, who also has a Uly, has a machine shop) could fab a conical expander plug to go inside the bar with the bolt also acting to hold the end of the brush guard in lieu of the plastic nipple. Any takers out there?
