When the XB12X was released Buell said the GPS would be Available November 2005. Anyone here anything? |

I am waiting also, but if it is just the Quest and not the Quest 2 i will be buying a Q2 off the internet, I want the Q2 because of it's additional maps and software. When on vacation and not on my ULY we will be using it in our motor-home with a dash mount. This thing just looks so small and so neat. . ... Terry |

I hope its the Quest 2 also, I've been looking at the pictures from the XB12X Brochure and pictures of the Quest and Quest 2 and can't tell.....I pulled this from the Live online chat....GPS: “We designed a very well integrated GPS system with Garmin and hope to launch that in our dealerships in January 2006. It cleanly and conveniently mounts to the handlebar, close to the brake master cylinder.” |

If you don't mind monochrome screen, I was thinking that the Garmin I2 looks like a nice little unit. It can be had for less than $200. For color, the I3 looks pretty cool. |

The i2 is a great little unit, but it is not waterproof. Both Quests are well-suited for motorcycles. The nice thing about not having pre-loaded cartography (Quest) is the processing speeds during searches. If you don't mind the speed difference, it is nice to not have to load maps before a trip (Quest2). I think the Buell Quest will likely look like this one, but with Buell logos.

I'd watch for announcement(s) at the January mid-year dealer meeting. . . but, hey. . . that's just a guess. |

Any word on factory heated grips yet? I'd heard rumor that they were going to be announced too. |

I wasn't keen on waiting through winter for factory heated grips. I installed aftermarket grips. Very easy, very effective. While I was at it, I installed my own Quest 2 on a ram mount. Works great. I'd be interested in buying factory equipment if it seemed well done and tidy, but I ain't interested in waiting around for it. |

Spoof, Which heated grips did you use? I am currently trying to decide between Dual Stars or Hot Grips. Can't seem to find out which choice throws the MOST heat. Anyone out there have thoughts? Poor circulation & a bit of "arthur-itis"! Thanks in advance, John |

I went with the Dual Stars (though I got them from California Sport Touring because I prefer the switch arrangement). Very affordable. Hot Grips are further insulated from the handlebars, so I've heard that the heat output is very good, but they appear to create a larger diameter grip surface which I didn't want. The Dual Stars are plenty hot, though. Even on the low setting I have to turn them off after a few minutes driving at sub-open road speeds, even with summer gloves--they're very toasty and I'm not sure I'd want anything warmer. A variable controller would be a nice addition, but for now I've already gone and drilled a hole and mounted the heater switch just to the right of the instrument panel. It's a very clean install and I would be a bitter cranky person in a car if not for the grip heaters. At something like $30 or $35 it's a no-brainer. The one tip I have is, despite the fact that the DS heaters are supposed to put more heat to the left bar to compensate for direct bar contact--it doesn't quite work. I carefully wrapped one layer of duct tape around the left bar before applying the heater and I'm glad I did, but I wish I'd added two. I've also heard that shrink wrap tubing or an old bicycle tube can work well. P.S. Namibian, did you ever get Fastways? |

Spoof....you are I are on the same wavelength. I did the exact same thing. Wrapped the clutch side in a layer of duct tape, bought the CA Sport Touring package for the more attractive switch, except I mounted mine on the left side of the instrument panel so I can work the switch without having to remove my hand from the throttle or reach across. They get VERY warm. On high, you could make toast if you help a piece of bread between your hands and the grips! Can't beat the price either. I did, however, opt for larger grips as I wanted a thicker grip for my big paws. |

Big-pawed bastard. I spose you've got big gloves, too, eh? Yeah... I tried to like my gps mount on the right, but I just don't, so I kept it on left where I prefer it and--fortunately--I haven't found the reach for the switch to be bad at all. I had that reach in mind because I checked out your excellent install report from your FJR. Good info and much appreciated. I was happy to take your advice on how to wrap and route the wiring--Many thanks. |

Wish I would have taken some pictures of the install of my grips. The worst (and scariest) part was drilling the metal panel where the guage pod mounts. I thought it would be plastic, but it's not! Switch looks like it's stock and belongs there. |

Nice! I thought about that position, but I was too afraid the switch wouldn't mount flush there because of the slight bend in the surface. I decided on the side of the instrument pod just above and to the right of the ignition key. |

Chad and Spoof, I did the same grip heaters, but I added the heat-troller too. I put the switch and led where Spoof put his on the right side. Chad, you are right, the scariest part was when i drilled. It worked out fine though. I spliced into the front accessory outlet for power and mounted the heatroller on the left side of the horn bracket. It fit perfect with plenty of room to route the cables and switch. I went with BMW ariett grips. Rhinowerx had suggested them and I like the shape. I will try to get some photos. |

I have Saeng lights. I like them fine--but already had them lying around. If I were purchasing new for the Ulysses, I'd have gone with something else. The best thing about the Saengs is that they are adjustable on the fly. They mount to the turn signal stalks.
