at my spare time like a kid with a lollipop! OK, now that I have gotten your attention, I would like the Uly owners to relate a story about how the bike has effected your life. This is for fun guys, so we can take a break from the "How high is it, can it turn tight, and how much oil does it use?"

I bought mine 2 weeks ago after 3 years with a 99 X1. Finally a sport bike for my size (6'1", 235). And a "sexy" midnight black instead of the highly alarming Reactor Yellow. Yesterday I took it in for an oil change and to diagnose a "thump...thump..." sensation and noise I started getting from the front with severe braking. No word from the shop today. I miss it terribly. I have ridden every day and every night since I got it. Those midnight rides down to the Mall of America - past the GW monument, around by Jefferson Memorial, loop back by the WW II Memorial and then past the Wall and on to Lincoln. Now I keep walking out in the garage and staring at the place it is supposed to be. I miss my bike. My family is getting concerned...and suspicious...

Jiminy, Hooah has it bad. Nothing so major here...I only sold my ZX-10 and have been riding the Uly to work in 30 degree morning temps...left it at the shop tonight for the 1k service and have only gone out to look at the empty garage once. oh yeah, and now I wave at cruiser riders on the highway too, instead of just sport bikes.

I always liked the XB, but just did not have enough room to be a stand alone bike. My M2 has the room I need to ride two up since my wife and daughter like to ride with me. So I tried the Uly, thinking it was too tall for me, I finally got to sit on the bike. I could reach, it will work, it has hard bags, helmet lock (a feature that I liked on my Honda the M2 did not have) and room for two up riding. It came home.

Now after a month and 1500 miles I really think Buell made this bike for me. It rides, handles, pulls like a freight train and is perfectly comfortable at any speed below a jail sentence. The only bike I have ridden that can pull the front wheel rolling along at 20 miles an hours with the clutch out and just give it one-third to half throttle. You can wheelie the bike and keep it under 25 mph. It's a kick in the pants.

I have tried to take the bike off roading, but its hunting season in these parts and going into the woods this time a year is a life threating experience. My one attempt last Friday was a good taste of what Adventure Sport bike riding is all about. I found a road that ends in a path going to a boat landing. Since there were signs to the boat landing, I thought it would be okay to ride down. First the pavement ended and turned into a dirt road. Then the dirt road turned into a two rut path. Then the ruts had water filled holes about two feet deep. Just about the time it started to get fun, I saw a pickup truck. Then I see the guy with an orange hat clutching a gun. I stopped and asked him if the boat ramp was open. He nodded. I asked if he was hunting the lane (that I was on), he nodded again. Proving that I could perform a three point turn over the ruts (I didn't know if I could get the bike turned around, but I did fine), I decided to vacate.

Riding out, I rode in and out of the ruts, up and down, up and down. Then the ruts smoothed out and the dirt path widened into a full road. My speed picked up to about 30mph. After playing a bit with a dirt esse curve, the black top started. I made a left within 100 yards and was taking a series of sharp curves at speed on pavement. About a mile to get out, and another to make the first stop sign. I thought to myself as I stopped at the stop sign, I can get use to this! It really surprised me how much fun that was.

Ok, just a short teaser from me for now. In my younger days, I practically lived off a bike for 16 years. Mostly Moto Guzzi and H-D. Started to get the bug to go racing. Knew I could not afford to injure myself and went into sports car racing instead. Drifted away from bikes, no time or money. Quit racing when the money ran out. After a few years the local H-D shop kept saying " We miss you, come back." Tried to come back but could not stand the game that buying a H-D had become. Then the Uly came along and saved my soul from a fifteen year absent. Now I am doing things like moonlit rides, bike nights, and such. Whats next - bench racing?

ahh.......the Uly. I never hit the bike nights 'cause a lot of people told me I looked too big for my X1. Now I have a bike that's the right size for me. I just can't get excited about all the chrome inherent in a HD. I prefer the "understated" look which is why I passed on the barricade orange and traded in my reactor yellow for a midnight black bike. I just got a new helmet (Scorpion EXO Warhawk, black and silver) I thought it might be too "young" for me but I caught a glimpse of myself reflected in a car's tinted window and I had to admit - it's a bad-a** looking lid.

Sometimes when I go out for a ride now and pass a tavern with some machines in the lot I'm almost sad I quit drinking. Then when I take the next set of twisties I realize it was a good decision. And what the h*ll is bench racing?

I have only had my Black Uly for a week now but I too find myself saying good night to it. It only has 300 miles right now, so I am still taking it easy during the break-in but I know it is gonna rip when I can get on it.

This makes somewhere around bike 25-30 and it is my first non Jap / euro bike. I am loving it and can't wait to ride tomorrow.

Yes, the spare time just seems to vanish.

Got my Uly on 11/04, first Buell, first street bike. Almost got a V-Strom but for some reason waited (now I know why I waited!).
I now have 883 miles on it, both solo and two up riding. I love it!
No real "adventure" stories but I have ridden down alot of roads that I've never been on before.

Well, it is broken-in now and yes, it really comes alive above 4500rpm. I love the power of this thing. I am going out Saturday in the Socal twisties and will report back.

Snub13 - I have a V-Strom 650 also and these are two completely different bikes, that is for sure.
The Strom is staying for me as it is like my Jeep Cherokee, useful like a swiss army knife.
The Uly is more like a Mustang and Hummer offspring. Big, Bad with lots of attitude.
Even more so when I get my Drummer put on...

Hi Guys, just from a lady's point of view. After being two up on a XB12S long distance, I am in heaven!!!Feel like I am sitting in a limo, so smooth.....
This is a two up bike to satisfy any woman.
Heaps of room for my backside....Padding for my backside.....Oh did I mention how comfortable it is on my backside Hee! Hee! And the back rest is just so good. I just sit on back and take in the views, no more aches or pains.

Heaps of room between me and Opto, that took a bit of getting used to.But has added a new excitement to cornering, I can enjoy it more and do not have to concentrate on not squashing him!!
Besides took me back to the old days, been a long time since he reached to touch my leg and make sure I am still there!! Romance is alive!!!

Great to be on a bike that you can already trust, something is different though... cant put my finger on it yet...

Opto can flat foot with me on the back, I told him it's nothing to do with my weight. Smart man my man, just smiled back and said nothing.

Can't wait to hit the dirt next!

AAAH Bindy, so I take it that Opto is not wearing the "If you can read this, the ----- fell off" Tee shirt. And presenting another helmet picture. My helmet I wonder where my handle came from. The other day I went to pass a car and they decided to play games. All I can say is Front Wheel in the air, Rev Limiter kicking in, and a Very Small View of the Car in my Mirror!

Hooaah, Just ask Joe Buell what bench racing is. It looks like he has raised a few beers and tales with the boys out in the garage. Bench racing is the official language of the Gear Head Club.

Always love that look of surprise when they realise we are two up!

Dragon,
The Uly hugs the road much better with the missus on the back, the suspension is excellent now, that's why I like to take her. I haven't found any mobile road blocks yet on the Uly, I'm still sussing her out, but the early indications are excellent (read - Buell) handling with amazing soft ride and similar but not same as the wicked Lightning short. Where I would back off a tad on the Lightning 2-up on a known corner cause the bump was going to be tooo big (and maybe scrape the pipe), with the Uly I can power through and soak it up no worries. I was very impressed on our 1st 2-up ride. Think I'm going to have to steal the K&N off the Lightning and put it on the Uly to cope with the extra cargo. Bindy wanted me to post a pic of her summer and winter lids...

Dude! You're supposed to say something like, "I like to take the missus with me because it gives us time together, and I like to feel her arms around me." At least if she is posting on the same thread.

Opto, hey no fair. I still waiting on the posted "Buy Slayer a New Drummer SS Fund" to pay off. Good luck on your hop-ups. For those who do not know, you install the K&N plus tweak the fuel amount for power, and install the exhaust for attitude.

I enjoy riding two up on the Uly. If you for some reason cannot wheelie it by yourself, just put someone on the back and you can do it and stay under the speed limit.

The Uly is the first bike I've owned that actually handles better 2-up. I rode the demo bike 2-up and was well impressed with the handling, when I bought my Uly & first rode it solo she felt a tad 'skittish' but felt great again with a pillion. Maybe I just need to play with the suspension settings when the weather gets above freezing again.

Ok, I feel that winter is truly settling in. The other treads are starting to get stale and the talk is about everything but bikes. And people are starting to rag on each other. Lets shake it up a bit and tell some good Uly stories. And those in the back with other Buell models - step up to the mike and tell your stories of biking adventures. There is a price to be paid for lurking on this forum.

I need to have MY GF jump on here. She told a story at the family turkey dinner.

I ride alot with my family, cousins, uncles... they were less than amused to hear how I, with GF on the back of the XB12R, missed a corner and rode out through a hay field.

It was a winding rode, little Amish country so horse and buggy are frequently seen and for that reason alone, I restrict my speed. But toward the end of this one road, it crests, and has a wicked left turn just the other side, and there are no trees along the road to use as a reference for where the road goes. Yea, it was my mistake. Funny thing is, it's not the first time that I did that, on the same corner. It just has a weird look to it, and before you know it, the corner is gone, and gravel is beneath you.

 So I lost some "cool points" that day. No harm, no foul. Just some pride off the skin of my azz.

I have to agree with you guys that the Uly handles better two-up. It seems to settle things abit.

Mort, the settings the dealer used were way off for me, I went to the factory settings (in the owners book) and made some tweaks from there and it's like a different bike. No more high speed twitchiness.

Hi Guys,

Snub13 your are a life saver, just got my first
tongue lashing off XBoard really needed a laugh.

Nice to know I can post here and not feel like a complete wallaby!!!

The weather is beautiful, although temps are starting to get up and it's getting really humid.

We are off to the bush this weekend to Texas, yes we have a Texas here in Queensland!!

Opto has planned our route, lots of dirt roads it will be could to get out of the city.

We went dirt tracking on Uly on my birthday it was a hoot. Uly was brilliant, shook his head on some rocky patches but did not batter an eyelid going through the creeks. (Muffler went under, all Opto said was it would cool it off) We were out for just over 6 hours and I only got a sore backside on the way home on the freeway.

Will take some pictures this weekend for you guys to look at.

Take care Be Safe and Stay Upright,
Bindy
