I cruised by Vallejo Buell today and watched Al Lighton and Terry Parsley deep into dyno tuning Al's Uly with his trick new reprogrammer gadget. They say it seems to be able to do exactly what they want with it and were making good headway getting bike mapped.Sounds nice with the new exhaust system on there, too.
So you guys may be able to say goodby to all the add-on gizmos like Power Commander, etc.Sweet!!

Is this the software that Daves was talking about in an earlier thread that costs about $250?

If it is then I want to get it also!

Stevem123,
I read a bumper sticker that said there are two kinds of ships, submarines and targets.

My Uly is total stealth mode!
Love to blow by sportbike riders in the corners!
I guess that could be part of the reason for my low tire mileage huh....

They were still hard at it getting familiar with using the program, had Al's Uly at 98 HP and still had more to do.At about noon today they had run 150+ dyno pulls on the bike--!!!Gonna use up the warranty real fast that way.
And Al said his compensator came loose and they had to tighten back up,might not have been done to new spec???Keep an eye/ear on your bikes, boys and girls.

We finished. A/F curves nice and flat, torque curve to match, best pull was at about 98.5HP with only bolt ons, no internal engine work (the retorqued rotor/compensator sprocket nut doesn't count). 178 Dyno pulls to get it done, but I could do it in 1/4 of that now that we know how to work the tuning SW. Took it out for a spin to see if the AFV would skew. Put it on the Dig Tech when we got back, AFV rock solid at 100. Wheelie monster in first and second. I just got back to San Diego at 1:30AM. I'll be making more posts later up in my sponsor section. Time for bed!!

Hey Al,
Saw the thread in the sponsor section added some thoughts there.

I'm waiting for more data as 98hp with bolt-ons is just the ticket! Oh yea and a smooth torque curve (no dip) would be great, and good AF ratios too.

That's not too much to ask is it? :-)

Cheers

The posts are up in my sponsor section, here. My Uly is cranking out a solid 98-99 HP, and I'm sure that with another 1/2 day on the dyno, I could have gotten it to hit 100. But beyond dyno numbers, it is very driveable, has a nice shaped torque curve, weighs a lot less between the airbox, muffler mods, and CF parts. 2nd gear wheelies are just a twist of the wrist away.

The Micron is a very nice sounding pipe. To my ears, it is the best sounding Buell pipe I've ever heard. Down low, it isn't very loud, but is bassier than others. Up high, it is loud, but not as loud as a D&D, and it has a nice growl tone to it. I thought at first that maybe it would be too loud for a Uly, but I've ridden it with ear plugs and it is fine. I like a loud pipe when lane splitting thru Socal traffic, so it's staying.

The micron pipe fits very well. No coercing required to get things to line up. They did a good job with it.

The only bad things about the micron:
1) Tips need to be cut on a -1 version to fit a Uly. The -2 will fit without cutting the tips, but gives up some ground clearance. I like the looks of the trimmed tips better.
2) Right side scoop doesn't fit with it.
3) The rear clamp that comes with it is just a cheesy worm drive clamp. It should come with 2 T-bolt clamps.

All this stuff is available on the web site, except the tuning SW. You have to call me for that one. At this point, you'd need to get a Race ECM to use it. But I THINK that in the future, the stock ECM will work with it just fine. The Micron pipes are $699 for the next 6 I sell. After that, $799.

Al

Oh yea,
Upon analyzing all the data, we had several pulls above 99HP. But little ripples in the dyno plots up top can lie a bit. But it did several solid pulls to 99 HP, and I'd characterize any above 99HP as flukes.
