I noticed a lot more heat coming from under the seat when I switched to a low seat. Less foam so the radiant heat gets to you even faster. I spoke to Mike at Special O.P.S. and he was already making underseat heat barriers for other Buells, but had not made one for the 12X yet. I made a template with sides that fold down and tuck in next to the frame to deflect more heat to the rear and sent it to him. I got this back a few days later. It works really well and makes a huge difference in the heat felt on the seat. He charges $25.00 for them and it is money well spent. I just thought of something. The low seat has gel doesn't it. Gel holds heat like crazy from my asscooking experience. Once I got on my seat that had a gel pad on top of it and it had been out in the sun. My butt was on fire and I thought it would never cool down. I had to remove it it retained the heat so well. | ||

The fan still blows the hot air out passed the shock and out the right side opening. This is just to keep the radiant heat from soaking into the seat pan and gel insert in the bottom of the low seat. Any air that gets up under the barrier can blow out the back under the seat past the battery. It would do that whether the barrier was there or not. Mike at Special O.P.S. is selling these, not me. Electraglider - that gel is one of the main reasons this barrier makes such a difference. The gel doesn't get nearly as hot now. With the Corbin seat, the pan got really hot. Go for a ride and get the bike good and hot and take your seat off and feel the pan. It is roasting. With the barrier it is just warm. | ||

You are right Jim, the tape might work good too. I will probably not use the barrier in the winter so I have a "heated seat option" but when it is warm out, that thing will be in there for me. The gel really holds the heat. | ||

When I was looking at the Uly, I noticed that the fan blew hot air right on the shock. Then I saw that an engineer decided to put a remote reservior on the shock that is tucked out of the way of the hot air. NICE! But the fan does blow hot air up toward the seat, so I can see how a thinner seat might get warm. Of course, I ride with my butt back in the wide part of the seat, and I've never felt any heat with the standard seat. | ||

I got my Uly in November and as such have not had the pleasure of riding in nice weather. On my first ride I noticed that the under side of my right thigh was on fire! I shifted back in the seat and it wasn't nearly as bad. When the fan kicked in it went away (thank God!). If it's hot out this may be a bigger issue but the fan will come on sooner so maybe not. When its cold out the heat feels good! | ||

I ride regularly in 90 degrees F plus and have found the frame/tank area gets quite hot, my passenger gets a lot of the blow-by on her legs and is uncomfortable, I'm going to get the rear cylinder air scoop thing from Daves ASAP which hopefully will solve some of the issue! | ||

Jan 17th update. The problem of hot air blowing out the right side under the seat is now addressed with this additional barrier. It can be used alone or in conjunction with the underseat heat barrier. I have been using it for weeks now and I am very pleased with it. Anyone complaining of the hot air out the right side should try this. It makes a huge difference.
