Have you tried a "Throttle Rocker"? I have one I use on longer rides. Easy on , easy off. Works great for me.

I really like the Cramp Buster. It is not a throttle lock in that you can take your hand off of it but it puts all the load on keeping the throttle open on the heel of your hand and lets you completely relax your grip on the throttle. After a little use its becomes very subconscious. It is very easily popped on and off the grip and not in the way at all.

I'm having carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand next week, I'm hoping that will resolve the issues with my hands going to sleep on keyboards, handlebars, etc. It has been a problem for years. If thats goes good I'll get the left hand done later, it is not as bad.

I would add a word of caution to the Cramp Buster solution when used with winter gloves. It's easy to forget it's there and if it flips too far forward can cause you to have to let go of the grip to let off on the throttle. With thick gloves on it is really hard to know if the Buster moved. I will not be using mine during the winter anymore, but I love it during long rides in the Spring and Summer.

i was at a local shop and we tried several different throttle locks and none would work. no space to install or the brush guards were in the way. i bought a throtle rocker but i find it awkward.

For me its not so much hand comfort as flexibility. If I decide to sit on the gas tank awhile, stand on the seat things that break up the straight-aways with something to do.

Back when I had my Garbage Wagon (FLHS), I used to lock the throttle and sit upright on the passenger seat while riding on the Interstate. I got some great reactions from riders going the other way.

I'm sure most will say this is a terribly dangerous thing to do but I always disconnect the main throttle return spring on all my bikes: Ulysses, Firebolt, Aprilia Mille, Ducati 900SS (but not the dirt bikes).

Normal vibration returns the throttle to idle...yes if I crash the engine is wide open, oh well. I don't like the "throttle rocker" things (have one) since they interfere with throttle modulation.

Ftd - I have never used a vista cruise before. Can you give me an idea of how they mount on the bar and how they work.

Also, how do you like the Traction grips? I was looking into those too. I want a little larger grip and those look pretty good.

I love the traction grips. Those and the Vista Cruise are the best $35 I have ever spent for bike parts.

The VC clamps down on the throttle when you depress the lever. You adjust the pressure with a small screw driver. I like mine where it barely holds the throttle so I may easily operate the throttle even when the VC is engaged.

Installation: I trimmed an amount off my traction grip ~equal to the thickness of the VC unit. Then I anchored the VC to the switch housing with a small bolt/nut. Finally. adjust the VC grip strength and you are done. Total time first time around, probably 1/2 hour.

Not done on my ULY (yet). I am doing the fly and ride with Dave so I am sending him a throttle lock today. I hope it will still work.
Anyone have one on a CityX??
I have had elbow tendon issues so if necessary I'd swap the brush guards for a throttle lock.
Especially for any decent length rides.

I went and looked at some CityX and Uly pics. Doesn't look like brush guards would be a hinderance to VC throttle lock. We'll see soon enough though.

If you need the change the thickness or O.D. of the end "flange" on a grip, the secret is to leave the grip in the freezer overnight and then use a coarse belt (60 grit or so) on a belt sander. If you don't have a stationary belt sander, frame up a simple wooden box that you can drop your belt sander in with the belt up.

Use very light pressure on the belt and wear heavy leather gloves, there are some things to be learned the hard way here. :>; )

I use this thing that clips to the throttle. I forgot exactly what its called, but it attaches easily to any bike, and all you have to to is rest your palm on it. Its safe, cause the moment you remove your hand the throttle releases, never sticks, but it takes zero effrot to keep it in place. 100% usalbe in city traffic as it is on I80.

I've used it on my past 3 bikes interchangeably, rode with it cross country more than a few times, and it was cheap (forgot exactly how much but less than 20 bucks)

Why can't Buell equip the Uly and other models with the same setup the other Harleys have. I have always thought Harley had about the best hand controls in the business. They all come with the tensioner screw which is probably the best of both worlds.
