Since ordering my Street Rod I've discovered and fallen for the XB12X. So definitely a newbie to this forum. I think I may have convinced my wife that we need a second bike. The sealer maybe this weekend when we will test ride a demo unit. Can't wait. | ||

Tel, I had the Street Rod in my sights before I bought the Uly. What convinced me was HD's reluctance to call it a sport bike. Buell, on the other hand, has made the Uly an unabashed sportbike with ergos an luggage to take it some great adventures. I rode a Road King for years and I think both are great bikes but I'll put my money on the clarity of Buell's technical vision these days. | ||

The Street Rod is not a sportbike. Not even close. No bike that has a 66.8 inch wheelbase and weighs 618 lbs before you put any fluids in it should ever be called a sportbike. The Street Rod is a great bike, I was thinking about buying one myself when they let me ride one last January. It is by far, the best handling,most powerfull,best stopping product that has HD on the tank(Destroyer drag bike excepted) but it is most certainly not a sportbike. Hence HD not calling it one. | ||

Tel, I concur with Brotherbuell's thought. Buell has a clarity of vision for the Uly. They knew what they wanted and they hit the bullseye. It's a supurb sportbike that will take you anywhere. I've thought about a Rod. But I've come to the conclustion HD doesn't know what to do with the Rod so it excels at nothing. It's painful as a tourer and it's too big and heavy to handle well. If you want a cruiser, get a Dyna or Softail. M | ||

What sold me on the Street Rod was its engine and the ergos similar to the naked bikes I used to ride in my youth. For a big and heavy bike it handles pretty well. I would never call it a sports bike but a roadster yes. If my wife lets me have a Uly I suspect I'll ride it more and probably have more fun. Definitely the machine I'll ride daily. | ||

I was in Australia courtesy of the good ole USMC. 12 days worth. 6 in the bush and then 6 on liberty way back in 1976. Operation Kangaroo II. No kidding. The thing I remember about Sydney was that it was very clean. Out in the bush their were wild boars and sows, flocks of parrots, small and large lizards, bats, jumping ants that wood bite the crap out of you, and scorpions. Oh yeah, I remember a spider the size of my hand right next to my head as I was resting against a tree. Very cool place. | ||

Tel, I spent a week in Bunbury and LOVED it! The roo's playing with my golf ball on the fairway was priceless. BTW, I still don't know how that is scored? Just so you know, a bacon double cheeseburger is more that a piece of ham and two pices of cheese in-between a bun! LOL and great memories. Todd | ||

Spent a little time in your country, both coasts and on each occasion was overwhelmed by the hospitality. I'm really keen for my family and friends to come out there in a couple of years. | ||

Tel, Hoisted a couple of beers with the Aussie's in Vung Tau, Vietnam. During the war, Australian families took US military on R&R, into their homes. A home away from home for a week, so to speak. I have nothing but praise for the people "down under". | ||

Back in 76 memory of Australia. We were in Kings Cross (Sydney) boozing it up and somehow or other met a bunch of Aussie navy guys and proceeded to tip a few more. Three of them got up and went to the head and when they came back one of them had been beaten up by the other two. Apparently the bloodied one had gotten too friendly with us, whatever that meant. We all went back to tipping brew and having a good time. Man, they don't fool around at all. | ||

In my days as a LEO I never had problems with US ship crews or marines but we were always busy with Aus navy boys. Any excuse for a blue and they were in it. | ||

Tel When I did the demo rides, I took out a Nightrod (because both the Ulys, and 12Ss were allready taken). I don't like to slam on other peoples preferences, because riding is about whatever is fun for you, but after riding the Buells, the Nightrod felt heavy slow and awkward. It was allmost like driving a tugboat. If you get a Uly, you should also get a cover to keep the dust off the Vrod. Have fun Darrell | ||

Had the demo Uly for about an hour yesterday. Belted it through some back country roads. I can only say I was extremely impressed and loved it. I think ergonomically it is the most comfortable bike I've ridden. I still like my Street Rod but I definitely see a place for the Uly in my shed. | ||

Well, Tasmania (the island state of Oz that Tel lives in and is famous - within Oz - for it's excellent bike roads and amazing scenery - it really is one of the jewells of Australia) is not that far from Lake Gairdner and I'm told you have to do some dirt to get there, so I'd say Tel would be well equipped for that, but Jim's bike in his profile looks a bit quicker than any standard Buell, good luck Jim! March is the best time to visit Tassie. Wonder if Paul and Ross have any plans on Lake Gairdner? | ||

I will set Jim and Ross up with F250 and camping gear and bid them farewell, need to be up in China that week will get bak to South Oz in time to help them unload truck and drink a few to celebrate Jim's 200 mph Well thats my version of the Snail Plan. |
