Hi everyone, This forum has been great. Thanks to your comments and chat I've chosen the Ulysses over the GS1200. I picked the bike up last weekend and managed to get over 200 miles done in 2 days. I just can't seem to stop riding whatever the weather, and the weather here in the UK is pretty bad at the moment. I had a GS1150 and it was good, very good...but no where near as much fun as the Ulysses, this thing is a blast. I even like the way it shakes on tick-over - gives the bike a bit of character. The fit and finish is as good as my BMW was. This is a high quality bike (I had a Suzuki Hyabusa and a Triumph T595 before the BMW, the Suzuki in particular was poor quality).

The bike was set up perfectly from the dealer and I am more than happy with their Sales reps (Riders of Bristol). The bike has a 'made on' date of OCT 05, so I guess I was lucky to get it so soon from the States. I also managed to get the luggage although I reckon they made a mistake by selling it to me as I think it was for the Demo bike. I'll be fitting the luggage myself next spring so if anyone has any tips then I'd appreciate you sharing them.

I'm finding it impossible to run the bike in as per the book so I might just ride it normally from now on. I've been quite careful for the first 50 miles and I haven't really pushed it for the last 150, but I find it impossible to keep an eye on the rev counter when I'm blasting around looking over the roof tops of car's, hedges and some small houses!

I had a Datatool System 3 alarm fitted by the dealer (helps with the insurance) and I want to get the Buell GPS (Garmin Quest) when its out over here in Jan 06.

I think I may have the front fairing buzz from the horn, but thanks to this forum a solution is already in place. I might just leave it till the 1000 mi service and get the dealer to sort out.

The lights are bright enough although I've adjusted the angle so that they're pointing further ahead, so there'll be a few dazzled motorists & rabbits on the road in front. Adjustment was dead easy through the holes in the front fairing.

The Ulysses has had bad reviews in most of the UK magazines so I don't think it will be as popular over here as in the States, which is a shame because its a great bike (so far!).

My advice to anyone choosing between a BMW and Uly...go test ride a Uly, its simply more fun and way cooler in the flesh. Its the kind of bike you can fiddle and get more involved with...if that's your bag. The GS was excellent and functional...but to the point of being boring (for me). Of course its a personal decision but I don't think you'd regret buying a Uly.

Roll on summer eh?

Darren,
I've owned 4 GS's and took a Uly for a test ride a week ago.
I like Buells so maybe I'm biased, but I also really like the Uly.
Just need to get this Dakar out of the way before I know if I can afford one again!

Baybell,
Congads on the new Uly, fitting the luggage is real easy. I did it myself in about an hour.
