Does anybody out there use one of those Hayden M6 automatic primary chain tensioners? How about those mercury balance gizmos by Balance Masters. Anybody ever hear of anyone using them to quell vibration? Any first hand experience with them? I'm very curious about the mercury balance concept and wonder if it is snake oil scamola or miracle cure. Anyway, I have run the Hayden M6 for about 30,000 miles without messing with it at all other than to look at it through the inspection cover on my Electraglide's primary. It seemed to take the clunk out of shifting after I installed it and since then I haven't had to adjust the tightness of the primary chain.

I know about those M6 tensioners: STAY AWAY.
I read everywhere that they were no good for Buells.

Thanks for the comeback but can you be a little more specific. I've had zero problems or maintenance with the M6 on my bike. My bike runs like a top and it has about 42K on it. The Buell engine is of course highly stressed compared to my mostly stock big twin. I read somewhere way back when, that when Harley went to the twin cam engine, they put in a better primary chain for reduced maintenance. Maybe the Buell motor has this better chain. When I get my ULY in a couple of weeks I'll try to remember to ask the service personnel what their opinion is of the Hayden M6. Opinions are like holes though, if you know what I mean.

Glider -- from what I've read/seen/heard (I don't run an M6 myself), the unit will do a good job of tensioning the primary chain when you're accelerating/coasting -- it does not do as good a job while downshifting (clear from the design) and Buellers row through the gearbox more often and with greater, er, vigor than most big twin riders, would be my guess . . . . .

I heard that they can break in there.
The stock nylon shoe works fine.
Don't invent new problems : )
