Rhinowerx,
Cool. My side cases came in Tues and I picked them up last night. Easy install after a few taps with a rubber mallet on the drive side case. They did have a strong chemical odor inside (from manufacturing?), so I left them open over night.

Haven't decided on a Drummer, Special Ops, etc. I'd like to hear them in person before deciding. I don't want real loud, just a bit more than stock :-)
Cheers

Jack, I know how you feel! I did the same thing except with the pro series muffler. So far I dig having the bags on a daily basis(they make things so convenient), and the muffler sounds great.

The Buell dealer here is telling me it will not work on the Uly, but the mechanic is saying it will. I believe the mechanic is correct!!! Has it improved the performance?

The deal is, the race kit is not *Approved* for the XB12X... I believe it is because they want you to keep the stock muffler as it acts as a skid plate. So basically it is a deterent. But it functions quite well. I have installed pro-series ECM and filter, but went with a Jardine slip-on for sound (and budget).

The kit definitely improves performance, and does alot to the already better low end, as far as smoothness of power delivery.

I've got the full race kit, it pulls like a train, can get the front wheel up by just screwing on the throttle (hard) above 3000 revs in 1st second or third, looks and sounds fantastic! The only problem is the side stand hits the L/H muffler outlet pipe! Can't wait for the side luggage to get here, your bike looks great!

Guys,
Just when I thought I was done modding my XB12X, I see the race kit fits. Couple questions.

How loud is the race muffler? I don't want to wake the dead, but the stock muffler is just too mellow.
Oh yea, can you still jack the bike up using the race muffler?

No log hopping here so skid plate isn't needed.
Thanks
Joe

Ok, here is what I am thinking about, a Special Ops muffler, Buell ECM and air filter. That should give me a little more performance, cooler running motor and better sound.

Anyone else have other ideas?

The luggage will arrive at the office tomorrow - I plan to install it on the bike during my lunch break.

My hit list of required tools includes:
3/8" socket
1/4" socket
5/16" socket
7/16" OE
Torx T27
Loctite 272

Am I missing anything?

Also, installed the Drummer last night - what an awesome sound! I've only put about 25 miles on it (with the Drummer installed), but I can definitely tell it's got more punch

I'll try take some pictures soon to post

Cheers
-Jack

Jack,
Could have just been my brackets, but the drive side bracket didn't fit quite right.
I gave it a few hits with a rubber mallet and all was well. I could only get 2 of the 3 bolts to line up before attacking it with the mallet.
Course, could have been just that bracket.
Cheers

Like the instructions say...keep all the attaching hardware loose until its all in place, then snug it down. Best thing about it...when ya do it yourself ya can justify to spend the $175 (labor) on something else.

Lock the bags in place with the key.

The race kit muffler isn't LOUD but it's noisier than stock and a lot deeper, I get a lot of comments on how good it sounds! It's still stamped as a jacking point and is heavy guage aluminium.

The kit seems to move the power range up in the rev range slightly so I've done myself a dis-service for real off road stuff where I want low rev tractibility!

I'm still rapt in it!

Dave,
My bracket was visibly bent (just middle boss), but after adjustment, all bolts were started and run in metal to metal by hand, then the torque wrench came out. I'm very careful when messing with aluminum.

Brat,
Cool thanks. My 95" FLTRI w/SE pipes is loud and not the best choice for my 4:30am commute. A little attitude to the XB (w/ race kit) maybe just the ticket. A deep rumble without annoying the entire town :-)
Cheers

Took me about an hour and three beers to install the luggage - pretty easy to do, although the brackets did need some gentle persuasion (even with bolts only hand tightened, the right side bracket seemed a little out of wack).

Anyway, I must have gotten used to seeing the bike without luggage - cause now it looks huge! Guess I'll get used it - will definitely need to be more weary splitting lanes...

Now the only other thing I'm waiting on is my personized plate

Soon as the weather clears up a bit, I'll take a few pictures - and post them here - of the Drummer and the Luggage

Who wants to ride? - planning on heading up to the RockStore this Sunday

Cheers

From what I'm hearing, all the luggage right side brackets are off a bit. I installed mine and was one of the first sets to come out to the west coast. I took delivery Aug seventh and got the bags just about two weeks later. My right side bracket was also a little off and required some pursuasion. Maybe the factory needs to do some checking into the problem.
I'm happy so far and my only complaint is the dang crappy mirrors. Otherwise the bike is great!

One of these days I want to visit the rock store but I have a ways to ride to get there from Santa Cruz.

Jack,
Yep she sure is wide with the bags attached, I don't really notice them while riding though.
Having lockable cases makes up for the added width (for me anyway).
Cheers

I put my side cases on Friday night.

The right side frame didn't want to align where it mounts to the aft side of the passenger footpeg bracket.

I had a friend over so I had to pull on the bracket to align the holes so he could get the bolt started.

Is this the same problem everyone else is having?

Meanwhile the side cases are great. Next up is the trunk.

BTW, 2 black rubber adhesive backed strips came with the side cases. No instruction as to where they were to be installed. Anyone know?
