I just got my corbin seat and being I'm only 5'6,it's just what the doc ordered. I can flat foot at least 1 ft @a stoplight now with very little lean. I'm going riding now. It looks exactly like on the corbin web site, have fun will be back late sunday.

Be sure and give us a report on how the comfort compares to the stock seat!

I could sure use a lower seat but hate to lose allot in the comfort dept, which seems to happen with lower seats.

I have the Corbin and stock seat and the Corbin is very nice. The fit and look is excellent.
I expected it to feel lower, but reach to the ground for me is about 3/4" to 1" inch lower than the stock seat and it is wider up front.
I like the seat and it is staying on for me.

I had my Corbin seat made even lower by using my stock pan. I did 530 miles last Sunday and just like on my other Buells these seats always seem to work great for me. ... Terry

I just mounted mine today. Fit was very good, but I needed to trim the bumpers a little bit to get the clearance to be able to lay the beaver paddle down flat. This is typical of Corbin seats, and a razor blade makes quick work of it. A tip: put mayonaise or mustard or something similar on each bumper, mount the seat, you can tell by how the mayonaise transfers to the frame which bumpers may need some trimming.

It looks fabulous, and feels great so far but no real seat time on it yet.

I have one in stock now that is unspoken for.

I have to say that this is the third bike I've bought a Corbin seat for and up until now I have always been very happy with their products.

However, I am very disappointed with the Corbin saddle for my Uly and so much so I couldn't wait to get home and put the stock one back on.

First, I had to spend about an hour grinding down the various grommets to even get the seat to go on the bike. Even after this it still only latches with a lot of effort - not a good out of the box experience. And with the seat on I couldn't get the triple tail to latch in the forward position.

Second, upon sitting on the seat I found it much harder than the stock seat. I understand that some folks like it that way, but I don't remember any of my previous Corbin seats being this stiff.

The real deal breaker for me though was when I went riding with the seat. At anything less than accelerating I had to forcibly push myself back with my arms to keep my butt in the saddle and under braking it was very hard to avoid slamming the family jewels into the airbox cover. I don't know if they treated the seat with some sort of protectant but it was very slippery. However, I think even without this it seems like the seat is sloped forward which means your always being moved toward the uncomfortable part.

I really hate to whine about this stuff, but did anyone else have a similar experience? I need to see what their return policy is as IMHO they should have worked some more on this design before releasing it.

Sorry to hear the bad experience with your seat. At first my seat went on aliitle stiff, but now it goes on as easy as the stock seat. For me it is very comfortable. The triple tale also does not lock forward, however that is very minor for me. I happen to like it very well because I'm too dam short for the stocker. Good luck

I had to do some bumper trimming to install, but that is par for the course for any Corbin I've ever installed. A razor blade and 1/2 to 1 hour of playing with it is all it takes. I thought mine fit pretty good overall.

My triple tail latches forward, though it does take a bit more fidgeting with it to make it so. There is a technique that makes it easier, though. Standing on the left side of the bike, I pivot it down and let it start to latch into the splines. Then I squeeze it by the splines with my right hand, while bouncing my left fist multiple times (not particularly hard, either) on the top (back) of the beaver paddle. The bouncing provide the energy, the squeezing provides the forcing motion, and the splines mate right up. Latches nice and tight without rattle that way.

I don't have too much problem with sliding forward when I don't want to, but I consider it to be a feature, not a bug. The Uly is two different motorcycles depending upon where you sit. If you're back in the seat cup, it's a comfortable highway steed and it wheelies better from there. However, if you slide forward, it handles in the corners much better. The forward weight bias helps turn in, and it also preloads the front suspension a little more so that front end dive under braking is reduced a bit. Also, when I come to a stop, my legs reach the ground much easier if I slide forward a bit.

If Corbin had made it so with a more defined seat cup to the front, the ability to move fore and aft would have been reduced. I would NOT like the seat if they had made moving fore and aft more difficult.

Note that most dirt bikes have seats that make moving fore and aft easy, because on dirt bikes, you're ALWAYS changing your fore and aft position on the seat. I'm sure the Uly is better for that flexibility in the dirt to, but I haven't driven it there much yet.

I suppose that the different lether textures that they make would have a strong influence here. I have the CF look leather on mine, rough enough to get some butt grip but not textured enough to be uncomfortable. If one wanted more grip, the basket weave leather texture would probably be good. The smooth black leather might be a bit slick. The stuff Buell uses on the stock seat seems to be pretty nice in terms of not to slippery, not too sticky.

I posted this before, but without pictures. Here's another option for the seat height topic. I took the stock seat to a local seat maker. (www.alligatorbob.com) He lower the seat 1.5 inches, installed a "Pro Pad" and cut 1 inch into the passenger seat. (I kept sliding forward on the stock seat.) The cost of the pro pad installed was $160. The cost of the cut was $25. Total customized seat was $185 out the door. He did the work with a one day turn around. He said people send him seats all the time. For out-of-towners, add freight to the $185 and you're done. My longest ride to date is a 400 mile day, with no complaints. Well worth the money. Since the stock pan is used, there is no problem with the tail pad or locking device.
Leaf pictures are a bonus from Southern Wisconsin.

That modified seat looks really nice. Can you give us some more detailed shots of the seat (top, side, on bike and off) I am curious if his mod will be as low as the OEM low seat? The Corbin is 1.5" lower but wider up front so it doesn't feel as low.

I'll try to get you some pics, but camera has been loaned out again. But the seat looks like the stock seat. Same seams, everything. What the shop did was to change the insides of the stock seat and cover the customized insides with the same stock cover. Front section of the seat can be modified. I had the same concern when I took the seat into the shop. A..Bob said that installing the pro pad would automatically narrow the front section. It's still a little wide for me, but he did say if not completely satisfied, I could bring it back.

Thanks for the info. I may give him a call to see what he can do. Do you know if he could have gone lower with your seat? I want it lower and narrower in the front than my Corbin. The Corbin is really nice but if it was narrower up front I could benefit from the lower seat height more.

I told him to go as low as he could. I have a 31" inseam and was on my tip toes on the stock seat. Now I can put the ball of my foot on the ground.
He's been in the business many years and should be able to custom fit your stock seat to your profile.

Not much different than what you'll see on the corbin site here, but the next post haspictures of mine.

I put close to 200 miles on it on Sunday. It is firmer than the stock seat to be sure. But it feels about like the XB-S corbin seat in hardness. I also rode Tom's mostly identical bike with the stock seat for a few miles at the end of the ride. I like it. I can see Homer's point, I tend to gravitate forward on the seat during harder braking, more so than the stock seat. But it isn't bad, and in fact, it's kinda good, IMHO. When I'm just cruising, I don't slide forward. But we were sporting about a bit up Palomar Mountain and back (both sides) and doing lots of twisties, so restoring my position forward wasn't a big deal, as most of the time, I wanted it there anyway.

Homer, it occurred to me that if the beaver tail isn't latching on yours, the rear of the seat is probably still too high. Shaving the bumpers down more will not only latch the seat and tail easier, but it will reduce the forward slope a little which may help with forward slide. I shaved my rear bumpers down 2/3 of the way to the seat pan.

I'm a lot more sure footed at stops now. My 30" inseam pretty much had me on tip toes at stops unless I slid a butt cheek.

Al

Al, one thing I noticed about your Corbin is that it has the Carbon Fiber pattern in the leather.
I think that makes the seat more slippery. I have the same Corbin but with their regular leather and it is not nearly as slippery as another Corbin that I have with Carbon Fiber pattern.

If someone was ordering one this might be something to consider.

BTW Al. Palomar huh, I am in San Diego and hit Palomar often. Maybe we can meet up sometime.

(off topic alert!!!)

Devin,
I live in Carlsbad, but the A.S.B. shop is in Vista. I'm the director of the Bigg's BRAG chapter and have a mail list that I send info about local events and rides and such. The BRAG group is closely affiliated with SCAB (southern cal area Buellers, a non BRAG affiliated loose knit group that meets in Yorba Linda the first Thursday of even months), so organized rides tend to be to the north of SD. You're at the far south end of the county, but if you want to be added to the mail list so that you hear of events, send me a PM with your contact info.

(we now return you to your originally scheduled program material)

Bob, thanks for the closeup pics of the seat.
It does look narrower up front. I like what he did.
