I've noticed a annoying rattle somewhere from the tank cover area to the handle bars, @ 2000 to 2300 rpm, any insight? I tried to hold rpm's and identify without any luck so far. Sounds like a clutch or brake lever rattle but I experience no change when holding these items to prevent the noise. | ||

Take the flyscreen cover off and look at the horn. Mine was rattling against the inside of the flyscreen cover and caused the same symptom. I turned mine around backwards to clear everything and that fixed it. The horn sounded much better after the fix also, where as before, it sounded like a cow in serious pain..... BC Steve | ||

I just did the same thing to mine and the rattle is gone. It was annoying as hell. | ||

I had the same problem. Thanks for the fix Steve123. This may be one for the factory. I've attached a picture showing the rub mark of the back of the fairing and the fix.   | ||

I noticed the same thing but I'm not sure its coming from the horn. And while I can't see any scuffing on the flyscreen I can detect the slightest bit of wear on the leading edge of the horn's diaphragm. I'm going to flip it anyway and see if the noise disappears. Sorry if this is a dumb question (my last physics class was 30 years ago) but doesn't turning it reduce the volume of the sound directed ahead of you? Just playing around in the garage it seems louder standing in front of the bike than it does standing behind it. Is that my imagination or is the loss, if any, insignificant? That wouldn't be hard for me to believe either as although the factory installed horn does direct the sound directly ahead, it only goes that way for about 2 mm until it strikes the back of the flyscreen. Just curious. Thanks for the pic - I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how you flipped it around until I saw you took it off the hangar. DOH! | ||

Most bike horns are weak anyway. No one in a car with the radio on talking on a cell phone is going to hear it no matter what direction it's pointing. Actually if you look at the shapes inside there you'll see that the flyscreen will act like a resonator and transfer those vibrations outward like a voice coil cone. It's a hard plastic and resonates quite well. Think of it like a drum being hit from the inside!  BC Steve  | ||

OK. This is starting to get to me. No matter what I've tried (spacers, positioning, etc) I can't get the horn to function when I reverse it. What am I missing? All I get is that "sick cow sound" referred to above. I end up reinstalling it the original way. I'm still not sure that this is the source of the noise but I guess the only way to know for sure is to either leave it reversed and ride the bike. If there is some trick I'm missing, please let me know. BTW, I did notice the first time I took it apart that the holes on the one end of the bracket that holds the horn are significantly larger than the other ends. Also these holes are not perfectly round so I'm wondering if the vibrating "reamed" them out. I really cranked it down last night - and I was vibration free for the first 5 miles then it appeared again. Any advice is appreciated | ||

Turning the horn around sure got rid of my Uly's rattle problem & the horn still works as normal. When I removed the screen you could see a rub mark (black paint worn off) on the horn where it had been rubbing. | ||

I had no issues with mine, but used lots of blue loctite on the nut. And not to state the obvious, but make sure the wires are firmly attached... | ||

I replaced the stock horn with a 132 DB high-tone Fiamm Highway Blaster available from PepBoys - it fits neatly without any mods, works with the stock wiring and sounds a lot better (louder). I haven't had a chance to ride with it mounted yet (still waiting on the Drummer), but it doesn't look like it will vibrate at all  Cheers -Jack | ||

After a couple more close calls in traffic went out and bought one (the low frequency version). I couldn't fit it in due to the wiring bundles behind it but I did use the mounting bracket and set if off to the viewers left abit and it fits fine. Don't know if its louder to others but its sure loud to me! | ||

There are two different versions of the Fiamm Highway Blaster - one is narrower than the other. The (narrow version) horn that I bought was model 'E' - clearly marked on the front of the packaging. The fit - as pictured - is snug, but works without interference from the wiring harness -Jack | ||
