Hey,
I hope this is cool to link to my ride report (getting fairly dirty on the Ulysses) that's over on Advrider. I'm not trying to rob this place of content, I'm just used to the posting format over there and I'm not flooding this site with--perhaps unwanted--attachements.

Anyways...I had a smashing good time getting the Ulysses all bent out of shape high up in the beautiful mountains around Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Nice report. Maybe this'll quiet some of the advrider types that accuse the Uly of being nothing more than a tarted-up road bike.

Great report Spoof!

I may have missed it, but could you tell us about those lights you added to the Uly. Brand, installation, pics?

Great job!

I second the light question. How did you mount them?

Thanks for posting the actual link, Who--I musta been drinkin' er sumpin.

The lights are Saeng nightcutters. Mounted to the turn signal stalks, basically with hose clamps, wired to the high beams and with an independent switch.

Great article. Say, where exactly did you go?

Most of my offroad riding (KLX300R for dirt) has been in the south Jemez.

Spoof,
Thanks for the link man! That was a great read. It's so rare to read/see what someone has done in such an entertaining fashion. That romp has me all jazzed up to head out to the Rockies on mine, you should write for a magazine.

Thanks, guys.

Dr. G---I was barely outside of Santa Fe in the Sangre de Christo mountains.

Those lights are too cool!

Thunderbox,
No sarcasm. Note ": )" smily? I'd love for every Uly report everywhere to also be posted on BadWeB. No sarcasm.

My goodness- those are spensey! Think I'll try the 100 watt H7's first.

That company is called Saeng. They have an option for those lights 35, 55 or 100 W. Remember you only have a 450 W alternator so if you use it all for lighting you won't have enough left for heated jackes or charging for that matter.

Well, good deal. Next time I'll post here and give the guys at ADVrider a link.

The Saengs are spendy and also are wattage hogs and provide only halogen light.

I do calculate that I should be able to run the lights (3x55 all on), heated vest/grips and a gps on the Ulysses alternator and leave plenty for charging, fuel pump, ecu, tail/brake/indicators, etc---but maybe my figuring is wrong, I'd love to see some possible watt/amp combos of accessories and how they add up.

I had the Saengs actually, from another application. If I hadn't had those but was willing to spend similar money, I would definitely have gone for these: smaller, at least as sturdy--probably moreso, less power draw and I'd wager, a good bit more light. Made for an ATV, but I think they'd mount right into the Ulysses headlight adjustment holes. HID ballast is built-in, very trick.

I just can't stop taking pictures of my bike, all.

um, it must be love. BTW, I noticed tonight that one of my Saengs had loosened it's position a tad following my back road bouncing around. The benefit of the Saengs is great adjustability--but I'll need to locktight the tightening screw. I'll still have the ability to have tight, focused beams way ahead of the bright, that I can grab and turn a couple degrees outbound when I hit some corners.

All good. All very, very good.
