Test rode a Uly at Biketoberfest today and loved the bike. One question, the kickstand seems pretty flimsy. Anyone had any problems with the stand locking in the down position? There will be one of these in my garage in the near future. Was impressed with the whole bike. Feels very comparable to the 1200GS for a lot less $$$. New member here and have learned a lot from reading this site. Thanks |

I'd say the kickstand is good to go. I weigh about 190-200 pounds and mount the Uly like a horse, putting my left foot and most of my weight on the left peg while I swing my right leg over the seat. It's hasn't failed me yet. |

I've had my Uly for 3 weeks now and got about 2300 miles on it. I have the same concern with the kickstand but so far so good. With the bike loaded, I can't swing my leg over the stuff. I put my left foot on the left peg and stand on it lifting my leg over the seat. So my lean (hahaha) 200 lbs (and add more for gear) is depending on the kickstand. Coming off an '01 Tiger, I had no concerns. The Uly hasn't let me down so far. Buying this bike... the best Buell I've had. I doubt I'll part with my S2 just because it's just damned sexay. DAve |

No worries about the kickstand or anything else at this point. 15K and counting. Buy the bike. Ride the bike. Love the bike........Se you at the Uly rally next year. |

Dave, Give the following a try and let me know if it works for you. When you mount up, standing with left foot upon left peg as you already do, but before you swing your right leg over the back of the bike, lean down and forward, like you are doing a push-up. At the same time swing your right leg up and over the back of the bike. It also helps to bend your right knee so that your lower leg, the part below the knee, is generally pointing more up than aft as you swing your right leg up and over. Then you are only having to clear the bike with your upper leg, not your big ole boots. This works great for me even with my Ventura pag fully loaded and in the forward position. Beats the heck out of the leg lift method you currentl employ. You know, the "cool" factor is everything. Might take some practice. Showed my technique to my 70 year old Dad and he likes it too. A lttle stretching every day doesn't hurt either. |

Eor, I mount my Uly the same way. Have you ever tried it with wet boots? My left foot slipped off the peg one time when wet. I looked real stupid. I had to mount the bike from the right side with my foot sliding into the frame for support. I need a better set of foot pegs that grip when wet. or do some more stretching...... as for the kick stand, when I get on my bike I can feel the front wheel leaving the ground, so I think the kick stand is plenty strong. |

just make sure that the bolts are tight. mine shook loose after a while. thanks to this board for the heads up, to paraphrase ... if you put the bike on its stand and its leaning a "bit more" than usual, or feels funny, check the bolts on the kickstand. |

My XB12X kickstand seemed like it's been getting more play in it. I took the kickstand off and assembled with blue Loktite. AFter snugging the bolt down, I measured 5/8" vertical movement at the foot of the kickstand with the spring off. It feels better now but the vertical play seems a bit much. (Blake: AFter thinking about how I mount the Uly, I actually get on like you mentioned.) DAve |
