I just picked up the November Motorcyclist. The long awaited Uly review is in there. All and all I would say it's a good review. Certainly not as aggressively complimentary as CW. Some carping about soft front fork springs, steering lock and snatchy front brake. None of which I've found to be a problem on my own bike. That's the first I've heard of any issue with the fork springs. Bottom line is they liked it but they just can't seem to get too excited about it. The article starts with a quote "I wouldn't trust one (a Buell) to ride around the block, let alone the world" and ends with "Buell has done an amazing job of transforming a sportbike into an adventure sportbike, and one that shows no sign of being anything less than stone ax reliable". You've got to love the objectivity of these guys. They just can't seem let go of their negative bias toward Buell. That's one of the reasons I don't subscribe. Get with it MC, Buell has moved on to become a significant player in the high quality / high performance bike market. | ||

Of interest, My X1 is the first bike I have ever owned that I didn't replace the front springs with "Progressives" within a month of buying it. Needless to say, I can't see Buell taking a step backward in the spring department. Makes me wonder what type of bike they are comparing it to. | ||

About time! I haven't received mine yet, and I might not. I failed to renew for obvious reasons several months ago, but they have kept coming anyway. Fine time for them to stop! I sure didn't expect much from them, still, if that's the worst they can say, it counts as outstanding praise by their usual standards. | ||

IIRC Mitch spent some time on a race prepped XB and was very taken by it. And said as much in his write up. I've subscribed to CW and MC for years, it is interesting to read alternative views. The thing is, I often find myself disagreeing with the moto-press. To begin with I simply have no use for repli-racers. Maybe in some alternative universe where I had tons of free time to go to tracks days and race. But generally they aren't a practical streetbike. On top of that, except for the occasional Ducati I think most of them are heinous looking. But hey, they must be selling a lot of them because I see a lot of them. I'm just not interested, though. And I have no use for a cruiser either, although I find them attractive looking. The moto-writers are living in a dream world. They get to ride brand new bikes all the time which they don't pay for. Their opinions and insights can be useful, but only as an indicator. Ultimately I will ride a bike and make my own decision. Time, and the public, will tell. The new Uly could be a long term success and spur additional development, or it could be a flash in the pan. All I know is I like the Uly, I've got one and I'm keeping it. It does the things I want a streetbike to do, and what it can't do I can get done on my DRZ400S. And my 2 bikes (brand new) cost about as much as a BMW 1200GS. Such a deal! So don't be too hard on the boys at MC. These guys lose focus sometimes because they don't live out here in the real world with the rest of us. We have to buy one or two bikes and ride only those for years. These guys get to "play the field". Totally different stuff. Regards, Jim in Santa Barbara | ||

Sometimes I get the feeling that the divorce rate among moto mag writers must be extremely high. One year they LOVE a bike, then the next year, it's a heap of trash because the latest and greatest bike from a competitor was released with another 2hp and prettier wheels. If they treat their ladies the same way, none of them have a relationship that's lasted over 6 months.  | ||

Hey, you can't compare how you treat ladies and bikes. One of them is addressing your desire, core interest of life, reason for getting up in the morning and the reason for spending to much money. The other one is a human being. | ||
