I've been lurking here for a while, reading what everyone else has to say about the Uly's. I got a quote from the Military Sales office here where I'm stationed and they automatically added the $999 5yr/unlimited mileage Buell warranty. I was wondering if anyone else has gone for this, if so, why? If you skipped it, why? I've owned numerous bikes and have yet to buy the extended warranty on any of them but wondered if Buell's warranty/owners group was any different. | ||

Hi, I skip extended warranties on everything I buy. TV's, computers, cars and my new Uly as well. Why? I bought one once (on a car) and when time comes for it to pay off it's amazing how the fine print can get in the way. And the battles that ensue. I've decided to heck with it. My '96 Buell S2 was fabulous to me and I believe my Ulysses will be as well. It helps that I paid cash for the bike and so if something does come up I will be able to pay for it. But my experience with my S2 says Buell makes a good product and stands behind it. We'll see. Regards, Jim in Santa Barbara | ||

I suspect in the long run that extended warranty costs a lot more than 999.00...I am assuming you would need to have the dealership perform ALL services on the bike for the warranty period...this will not be inexpensive!?...a lot of the servicing can be done by the owner, the bikes seem extremely reliable (mine is an '03 XB9S and very little has gone wrong...certainly not 999.00 worth of warranty coverage)...so, I would advise to skip the ext. warranty...but, then again, should something catastrophic occur, one could end up biting one's tongue if he/she turned down the warranty... | ||

The '06's come with a 2-year warranty. I bought the extended warranty with mine in '03 because it was my first BRAND NEW bike ever. I don't know if it will ever be needed, but it'll be there if I do. | ||

I bought the extended warranty and also a warranty for the wheels and tires. I plan on a ride to alaska next year so it seemed like a good idea. The warranty included trip interruption provisions like meals,hotels,car rental.... The service writer where I bought the bike is an old friend so if I have to use it locally there shouldn't be a problem. | ||

You do not have to have the dealer perform the maintenance as this is a violation of federal law (can't recall the name of it right now). You do, however, have to show "proof" that you did the maintenance such as keeping detailed records and receipts of the parts and fluids you bought. If you have a problem, and the dealer determines it was due to "abuse" or lack of proper maintenance then you will have a fight on your hands. I bought the 48 month/unlimited mileage extended warranty for my FJR for $350. It was WELL worth it even though I never used it. Two years later, my FJR had over 21,000 miles on it, and I was able to sell it quickly because the buyer had the peace of mind knowing that it was covered by a factory warranty for another 3 years. The Yamaha warranty piggy backed on the end of the factory warranty for a total of 5 years/unlimited miles and is transferrable. | ||

Thanks for the info guys! I hope to be placing my order soon and try to get a delivery date in late Mar/early Apr. The weather here in Belgium has already stated to get a bit sketchy and will only get worse. |
