Happy Trail have just released their version of the Ulysses luggage system. The complete kit including rack and panniers is US$663 and the rack/pannier mounts only are US$265. Personally I think they look much better than the OE items.

They certainly scream ADVENTURE and UTILITARIAN and probably even DURABILITY.

But attractive?

NIMHO. I've got my Hepco bags on order. And I love the Uly! Way to go Buell!

I think those are sweet. I did get the HB bags included in my purchase and I'm stoked about that, but I believe the more variations, possibilities and aftermarket products, the better. Congratulations to Happy-Trail, who've never, to my knowledge, made a Buell-specific product before, on jumping into the aftermarket so quickly. I'm anxious for more views--and more products--but that's the only one on the HT website right now.

Aluminum panniers have been around a long time before becoming a staple of the BMW GS community and find their way onto all kinds of KLRs and KTMs and Hondas and Yamahas and MZs and Triumphs and Suzukis--plus it seems spurious to suggest that by lauding the German made luggage on your American bike and ridiculing the American made luggage that you're somehow keeping a distance from being "like a BMW" ; )

Where they make the product really doesn't bother me at all. It's either nice or it's not. It either complements the bike or it doesn't.

I like BMW motorcycles. But if I had wanted one I would have bought one. I still find them too large, too heavy, and as much as I like the idea of the boxer engine I don't like the adverse impact it has on cornering clearance.

If Buellers like the Happy Trails luggage then good for them. I prefer the factory bags.

Hopefully Buell will sell a bunch of Ulys and we'll see more aftermarket options than the tube frame Buellers have enjoyed.

Regards,

Jim in Santa Barbara

I need to see them in a wrinkle black finish before making up my mind about them.

They will take a fall over better that the stock bags, and they are easier to get things out of with the top lids, than side opening bags IMHO

I've seen the HB bags take a pretty good crash and boy are they (and their mounting system) TOUGH! Hard to believe anything would survive better.

I can't image liking anything better than the HB luggage; I have full set.

Plastic bags tend to take a good hit.

I certainly didn't mean to suggest that where anything is made would bug anyone, I'm just trying to point out that aluminum panniers aren't "BMW" bags.

Who knew you all had such weird BMW phobia?

It's all fun though. Motorbikes is bueno.

BMW Phobia? Yeah, I know what that is.

It's when you're cruising down the Interstate doing a buck-twenty plus on somebody else's BMW and you're worried about what you might say to an LEO if you get pulled over... BTDT.

The portion of this that excites me is that, at long last, aftermarketeers are taking notice of Buells.

Given the diversity of Buell owners, I myself among the "Buell OEM Hepco-Becker fans, I'm confident there will be a market for these.

By the way, for those of you with Buell bags on order, patience please. The Euromericans split for holiday during August and Buell is still catching up. The bags are worth it.

I just ordered the Buell hard bags because it was a deal I couldn't refuse. I asked my dealer here in AZ if they could beat a price that I saw on the internet and they said sure no problem. I found the HP bags for 20% off at Surdyke HD, printed the sheet out and brought it into them. God only knows when I'll get them. In the meantime, I saw that they had some new T-bags in stock and wondered how some of those would fit over the Triple-Tail. I took a few out to the bike and started sliding them over the tail and I was shocked to see how perfect a few of them fit! I almost thought they were made specifically for the Uly! I was short on time but I will go back in this weekend and write down part numbers, then I'll go get a lower price somewhere else and bring it into them...sweet deals keep rollin'
