So far all I've heard from those who've actually tested or bought a(n) Uly are a couple of minor gripes, and numerous accolades. Of course, when you put your money down, you tend to give it higher marks to keep from feeling like a fool , but is there anyone out there who absolutely couldn't or can't live with the bike? Why? I'm actually more sure than ever that this is my next bike, but it's still six months off - plenty of time to get lots of opinions. Steve |

I bought my Uly used. Previous owner rode it for 600 mile before he realized that he didn't have the confidence to deal with the height (of the bike) - the reason he couldn't live with it. Luckily for him, I was there to help make the problem go away - by taking the bike off his hands (Message edited by rhinowerx on October 02, 2005) |

Steve, Time is a wonderful ally when trying to make a major decision like buying a new bike. I am in the same position as you, likely to purchase a new bike by March 2006. I was very interested in the Uly when I got my Cycle World in late July. It shocked me. I immediately called my local dealer and got my name first on the list. Two (2) weeks ago, I got a phone call to come test ride the first Uly, an orange one. I went directly to the shop from work. They could not have been nicer and soon I was off. The bike had only 12 miles on it when I left the shop and the transmission was pretty tight. I didn't mind the seat height (I'm 5'-10", engine heat blown onto you by the loud fan, limited steering lock, shaky idle, etc. But after 30 minutes, I did start to become uncomfortable with the foot peg vibration. By 45 minutes I was eager to return the bike to the dealer due to a drilling pain in my left (reconstructed) knee. The bars and seat were smooth. I would recommend that you get an extended test ride if you are sensitive to vibration before deciding to purchase a Uly. It is possible my bike was not representative or needed to be broken in, but the peg vibration was a deal breaker for me. Otherwise, the Uly is pretty wonderful. I plan to test ride another one when I can find a demo that is broken in. Best regards, Tim Blanch Frederick, Maryland |

Definitely try a different Uly. At idle, mine shakes like an overweight stripper on crack. However, it has no discernible vibes above about 2500 rpm and my pegs feel as smooth as my seat and bars. Granted, my knees are factory original so I may not be as sensitive. Also, if the peg vibes are all that bug you, it would be a shame to pass up on the Uly for something you might be able to remedy by changing pegs and/or foot wear. Party on. |

Vibration? Try a tuber! The Uly is almost Japanese boring smooth to me. I detect vibration noises at about 2100-2200 rpm but above that it's smooth as silk. |

I tried a Uly on about a 20 minute test ride...I remember what it was like to break in my 9 so I took it easy and helped with the break in. My main goal was to get a feel for the bike instead of the performance...I know the performance is in there...especially on a bigger bike than my current one. Anyways...I was intrigued by the idea of riding a bike similar to my 9 and having the option of going onto the fire roads in my area. I loved the power, shifting, and seating position...very comfortable although I would have like the ability to move around on the seat a little more...learning the body english on this bike may not require as much movement as I am used to on my dirt bikes of the past though. All in all I really did like the bike. Then I spent about 30 minutes looking at the bike after I got back and thought about if I wanted to trade or switch to this bike. I thought about it for a good week and decided I am just not ready for that kind of bike...I still like to turn and the higher stance kind of affects that for me. I also am a little put off by the front end on this bike visually...I definitely appreciate the functional purposes for its design and layout but something about it seems odd to me...maybe it needs to grow on me. Overall the bike is very different looking...even compared to my 9 which maybe I needed to get used to...now I know what it feels like for other guys riding to stare at my bike since it also looks different to them. I will be ready for this bike...or its future counterpart. I just think my riding has to get to a point of where I can either afford it or it really does fit the riding I want to do. I have started to take more overnight trips...and I would like to take longer trips. My job just doesn't allow too many long trips these days but I know I want to do that again (I did cross country stuff while in high school). So...it is not that I didn't like it (except maybe that front end)...I just may not be ready for it just now. However I do know several people that love it...even after studying it a bit and taking a couple of text rides. I say more power to them...I am happy they found something that gets them excited. |

No secret. All is detailed, including part numbers, under the "Uly Front Fender Conversion" thread on this board. The fender was about $71 and I spent less than twenty dollars on the brackets and screws. |
